Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
But if you have a DBA, then when you apply the room correction it'll work a lot better! Yes, all things being equal, the more subs the merrier.  I think it’s best that I just accept your claim as fact that room correction/DSP/Dirac have had pos...
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
I suspect that having ruler flat bass response in a room may not sound as good as we might expectThanks for the sharing Tim. I believe room correction has the benefit of improving the tonality of the rooms bass response at the LP. Of all the spe...
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
oops, needed a double negative there .... "doesn’t mean ringing isn’t occurring"
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
Thanks miller. Exactly right. Just because the response is smooth at the LP doesn't mean ringing is occurring with long decay times from peaky modes at other locations in the room. Only DBA can fix that. For all the RF EE's, that like time domain...
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
What I'd like to know is whether a 4 smaller sub DBA has diminishing returns over dual larger higher powered subs when room correction is employed. I've got a treated room but still have difficulties taming the lowest frequency suck outs from SBIR...
Subwoofer Recommendation for Harbeth SHL5+
Rythmik F12 or E15/E15HP2. Check out Dirac Live Bass Control coming out soon in AVR's (and I'm not normally an AVR guy). Looks like an effective way to smooth out the room modes with optimization and without a dba.
What 4 subwoofers to buy?
The GR open baffle sub designs are intriguing. The uncolored sound without the box, quick settling time, and the way it loads the room may be the better option but more expensive. I always see GR OB subs flanking the OB main speakers, not in a DBA...
Which DAC makers let you do in home trial?
Some DACs add different filter settings to get differing sound characteristics, tube DACs and most R2R DACs roll of the top frequencies to give it a more analog sound I get a more analog sound from R2R after calibrating to the same flat freque...
Do audiophiles have a high divorce rate?
Audiophiles tend to be better off than the rest of the population. I'm betting lower divorce rate. 10 years so far.
Speaker for Line Magnetic LM 518IA in Large Room
I've got the LM508 with the highly efficient Tekton DI's and never remotely felt like I was lacking power, heck, bass response with rap music is super tight. Take a look at the Ulfbehrts. They are imposing in size and may not be WAF friendly
Extra power or cleaner power?
@tablejockey Yes, TV is so overrated, but my kids would suggest otherwise. Really good sounding 2 channel is such a treat, just had to find a way to get the TV away from between the speakers. The back panel of the TV is within inches of the front ...
Extra power or cleaner power?
@tablejockey , haha - you have a roll away too! I get to watch movies and game with my 65" oled between my speakers 6 feet away and a Marantz receiver for surround sound. Then I push the tv back to the front wall 13ft away for 2 channel. Switching...
Extra power or cleaner power?
I've seen battery powered dacs also preamps from audio-GD with regenerative power supplies. Front ends matter alot and cleaning up the digital chain is imperative before reaching the dac, if you're into digital. The emat+ in the circuit breaker bo...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
LM508ia offers triode sweetness and bass control. Not a pure Line Magnetic fan boy and can think of other more expensive options that might sound better. I'd like to move up to a 6SN7 line stage with KT88 amp from Don Sachs or Aric some day. Also w...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
Glad to see you mention Tekton. The Double Impact thread caught my attention 2 years ago and fortunately I was ready for new speakers and amplification given a bad class D experience. Quickly learned that sensitive speakers were the way to go for ...
