Tell about your experience with your old Audio-Technica SL-1200s..
Yes, pardon me - Technics SL-1200 mkii, but not necessarily limiting the discussion to just that model.
So how much do you think the placebo effect impacts our listening preferences?
I am not averse (see, didn't include anyone else in my pronouncement) to finding those quality pieces for less money; sometimes it pans out, most times I realize that something is not quite right for whatever reason, and I am ultimately dissatisfi...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Picked up a large cache of used LPs at a Goodwill around me - 187 in total, mostly rock or pop.  Been going through them one by one, and right now it's Gerry Rafferty's City to City (I've heard "Baker Street" more times than I needed to, but it al...
Why the cost increase?
Be patient; Covid put quite a dent in spending and income but this wasn't a case of a housing market collapse or other situation where the recovery will be slow, but a lot of companies laid off their workers who had to find employment elsewhere an...
The stereo sounds fine, music is great, but Jeff Bezos came back to earth.
You never can find a moderator when you need one.....
When someone listens to your system for the first time.
I've had both experiences - it depends on their priorities.  I have friends who don't blink at buying expensive cars, quilting machines, watches and jewelry but balk at spending more than 100 dollars for something else.  I've gotten "WOW! That sou...
Buying used vs new?
Buying used can be a good option; you said several years but not how many.  5? 10? 40? 50?  I've bought most of my equipment used but I've drawn the line at things made in the 70's and 80's - some parts are not available for certain models, so you...
Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
I have the Pontus II and the Bluesound Node 2 and the Pro-ject S2 Ultra. I’ve only had the Ultra for a couple of days, but my impression in comparison to the Node is meh; I hear nothing that’s impressing me about the Ultra so far. It can take a li...
Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
I would also second looking/trying out the Pro-ject Stream Box S2 Ultra.  I have the Pontus II and am using a Bluesound Node 2 as strictly a streamer - which is also an option, but I've seen the same opinions that the Stream Box is better than the...
Buying used: how old is too old?
Buying used is a good way to buy the dream component you've always wanted but couldn't afford way back when; my problem was that when I revisited those "dream" products later on in life I realized that they weren't as good as what I was listening ...
Best vintage DD turntables from the 70's and 80's?
If you're not thrilled with the GR (you say you love it but are willing to phase it out) I don't know if I would suggest going for a vintage 1200; that would be a step down in my opinion and not getting you to new frontiers because the tables are ...
Is There Any Reason To Buy A Reel-To-Reel Machine Nowadays??
This is one of those "Because I want to" moments, and there's nothing wrong with that, but unless you have lots of tapes that you really want to play that can't be duplicated any other way (if you taped simulcasts from your stereo or when they pla...
How many of you are digital only systems?
I stream, play CD's, have hundreds of records and a couple hundred cassettes from the 70's.  I mostly stream or play ripped files the most, then CD's lagging a bit behind and then LP's; I hardly ever play cassettes anymore.  I've been upgrading my...
Cambridge Audio CD Player Has Died
My CXC just died - plug it in, turn it on, gives "Reading" then "Closed" then "Open" then "Error" and does nothing after that.  Open/Close does not work.  Guess I have to dig my CD out of this damned thing.
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect?
One just sold on eBay from Overture for $2224 and free shipping, tested and in excellent condition.
