| Infinity Kappa 9 S EMIT not functioning or Hearing Loss? Failure of the EMIM and EMIT drivers is not uncommon. Paul McGowen had to rebuild a lot of the drivers in the pair of IRS-V's he bought. | |
| Mobile Fidelity Settlement Update I'll bet the decrease in sales of new and upcoming MoFi titles is and will continue to hurt MoFi more than does a settlement. | |
| 45 Singles You Just Had to Buy When in 1976 I discovered the record collector magazines (in particular Goldmine) and dozens of fanzines that had been started to cover the explosion of Power Pop and Punk, as well as the great underground music magazines (most notably Bomp!, the ... | |
| Are carbon fiber speaker cabinets inherently better than wood or metal ones Make your loudspeaker enclosure braces out of carbon fiber if you want. | |
| What became of schubert, more recently aka jim5559? If it was beauty schubert was looking for in music, I maintain that there are plenty of "Rock" songs that contain more beauty than do a number of Classical compositions. But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. | |
| Subwoofers: add a JL Audio or switch to 2 Rythmic subs? For home theater applications, Rythmik Audio offers ported subs, still featuring Brian Ding's patented servo-feedback design. For real bass hounds, he now also has models featuring dual-opposed 12" woofers, dual-opposed 15" woofers, and an 18" woo... | |
| Get 'em while you can! @tylermunns: For an in depth accounting of the recording of Smile (done in Brian's Spanish mansion on Belagio Road in Bel-Air---which I made a pilgrimage to in the Summer of 1975---on a pro machine Capitol Records installed), look for a copy of th... | |
| The best speaker cables you’ve had Oops, that was suppose read Time & Space Phase II, not !!. | |
| Amps on top? @rodman99999: Love the chrome! EAR-Yoshino also builds their electronics with lots of chrome. Their 868L pre-amp and CD player have chrome faceplates, many of their power amps chrome transformer covers and tube cages. Fancy schmancy ;-) . | |
| Why are People Dumping their Audio Research Gear and What Does it Say about them? @mbmi: One of them being UK-based EAR-Yoshino, electronics featuring the design genius of the late Tim de Paravicini (Pink Floyd Studios, Water Lily Records, The Mastering Lab---where Doug Sax did his work, Mobile Fidelity). | |
| There's No Question @boxcarman: Do yourself a favour and look into the open baffle/dipole servo-feedback sub offered by Rythmik Audio in collaboration with GR Research. THE sub for dipole planars such as Maggies. Magnepan itself will soon be offering their own dipole... | |
| What became of schubert, more recently aka jim5559? The problem with schubert was (?) he had (?) no sense of humour. Ya know, being filled with joy is a very Christian thing (and self-righteousness a very un-Christian one). That joy can be accessed through ANY kind of music. | |
| Get 'em while you can! @tylermunns: A cheap way to get one of the best pressings of Pet Sounds is in the Reprise Records original issue of The Beach Boys (jokingly called Carl & The Passions) So Tough album from 1972, which was a double: the new album and a reissue ... | |
| The best speaker cables you’ve had When I had Atma-Sphere M60 mono amps sitting directly behind Quad ESLs I had Kimber make me up a pair of 1' long 4AG (pure silver) cables with Postmaster spades. When moving on to stereo amps I did like @dill and got myself a set of 8' Clear Day D... | |
| Amps on top? Right @rodman99999, but those tubes are not mounted on circuit boards inside an amp enclosure, where the heat would flow past circuit components. The Wavestream V8 is one cool (no pun intended ;-) looking amplifier! So is the Atma-Sphere M60. |
