Any electronic modders here at Audiogon?
@joeylawn36111 - yup.  I have both Hakko soldering station and an older Hakko de-soldering station.  I also have a Quck 861DW hot air rework station.  Though, I've been seriously considering investing in the Hakko FM206-DTS rework station.  Having...
Looking for a used AUDIOPHILE AV Receiver
I agree with the idea that there's simply no such thing as an "audiophile" AV receiver in the classic sense.  It's difficult to get true "audiophile" in a receiver, when compared to separates. The only way you'll be able to get separate processor a...
Any electronic modders here at Audiogon?
I could write pages of info on what I’ve modified. I have both a full home theater system and a computer audio system. In both systems, there are only a couple items I have not "touched"/modified in some way. I have not touched my DirectTV satelli...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
I just recently experimented with diffusion panels on the side walls. They did not work out at all. I was using the 23" x 23" QRD diffusors (the ones from ATS Acoustics). It took some critical listening, but what happens with the diffusors on the ...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
They are probably very similar. The Owens 703 -might- absorb slightly more sound because it is a little bit more dense (Owens 703 is 3lb, Roxul Safe-n-Sound is 2.5lb), but that is such a small difference.https://www.atsacoustics.com/page--Selectin...
Fuse and Power Cable improvements 'how'? - Nuprime ID-8
The B&W 805N were very nice speakers, but they could be on the bright side - which may explain your loss of some "openness" in the vocals with the Kudus speakers. Do you still have the B&W or Yamaha? You could try swapping either/both of t...
In need of some advice on a matching a sub
Sounds like you're really after a home theater sub instead of a music sub.  If you still want to use your Kef 4S woofers for bass, set them as "LARGE", so that the general 2-channel bass frequencies are still sent to the Kef speakers.  Then just l...
I'm considering replacing my passive preamp with a tubes. Is it worth it?
George,Are you absolutely sure about that?  If you're talking about tube preamp, I could probably see that as being true because of the nature of how tubes work.  However, solid-state preamps do not necessarily have to be biased into Class A mode....
SR BLACK UEF Outlet break-in and why you shouldntdo multiple tweaks at once.
If you keep all the items in place, you can burn them all in at the same time.  Then do judgements after 150-200 hours.  If you do one item at a time, it's another 150-200 hours for each item burn in. lol.
SR BLACK UEF Outlet break-in and why you shouldntdo multiple tweaks at once.
Yeah, I have had items that took 200+ hours to break in.  Many times, an item will sound wonderful for the first 2-3 hours, then it will start its ugly phase.  Sometimes this phase is really painful and it goes through several transitions where it...
What is most important part of a system?
Such a controversial subject. lol, yeah and you'll get 17 different opinions.  That being said, it's true that it's all important and the weakest link suffers, but I think that your source/preamp are extremely important.  If the sound quality of t...
I'm considering replacing my passive preamp with a tubes. Is it worth it?
Some thoughts....There is a big controversy between passive vs active preamp. My thoughts are based on what kind of source you have. If you have a DAC with a nice tube or Class-A output stage, it could be that a passive preamp may be your best cho...
Improving 2- Channel Soundstage
Just saw this thread.  Instead of trying to put more speakers in-between or behind and using HT modes to artificially create a larger soundstage/ambience (such as HALL mode, etc.), I would try putting some diffusor panels on the front wall in betw...
Where is the optimal place to have an interface between two different metals?
That's a good question.  If you are correct in saying that a junction between 2 DIFFERENT metals causes impedance related reflections, then one would assume that copper-on-copper would be the best outcome.  That would not jive with my experience o...
Rotel over Integra?
Maybe post this question in the speaker sub-forum and also list your current equipment.
