have you ever bought stereo without listening first
I too am an average guy. I don't have the best and the latest, but I have patiently and carefully put together my systems over the years to arrive at a sound I am happy with and proud of. I live in the Canadian north, several hours of driving from...
New TT for ~$1500
OP, Try the Hana EL. It is the new Denon 103 and considered to be better. Talking of vintage Technics cartridge, I bought a used EPC-205C MK3 with original stylus (still in good condition) a couple of years ago. This cartridge is very neutral soun...
New TT for ~$1500
I have a VPI HW-19 MKIII with Jelco TS-550S and Hana EL. I'm quite happy with the sound, and I plan to get the Hana SL in the future for even better detail and tracking. The HW-19 is well-built too.I also have a Technics SL-150MK2 with SME Series ...
Lifespan of amps and preamps?
I agree. It takes passion to own vintage gear. As an example, a newly produced Scott 340b volume pot off ebay costs around $100.To OP, if you want to keep your system, you should at least do a recap, which I think is now a must. And as I said, som...
Lifespan of amps and preamps?
Hi OP, I myself love vintage and old gear. I have a Scott 340b, laboriously restored last year. Good sound is good sound. I'd say if you are happy and want to keep your system, then do the necessary maintenance and enjoy your system. For another 2...
Decent preamp
Re used gear: +1 on c-j. I have the PV-10AL and the PF-R preamps which I just recapped. You can never go wrong with c-j sound. Their build quality is great, and on older products what you have to do is just replace the electrolytics, provided thes...
Want to get into Streaming
In my case, I simply use a PC that runs Audirvana to stream Tidal and to play my ripped CD's and hi-res audio files. The digital audio signal goes to a Chord DAC.
My Demo results: I feel like I'm at a frustrating block in my speaker journey
And that is why audio is such a wonderful and exciting journey. You need to have to find the combination of electronics, speakers and room that's just right and makes you happy.
Where’s My Weakest Link?
OP, If you love the sound of your power amp and is not ready to part with it, try replacing the electrolytics as almarg suggested. You'll hear a difference. I just replaced the electrolytics of a c-j MF-2100 power amp, PF-R and PV-10AL preamps and...
Matching favourite Stylus to another Cartridge
Which stylus do you have, and with which cartridge body do you want to use it? We may be of greater help if you tell us.
AND A
Happy Easter everyone! Christ is risen, alleluia, alleluia! When I got up this morning, I listened to I guess 7 recordings of the Hallelujah chorus from Messiah.
192 khz/24 bit Albums on Qobuz
Lucky you, guys! We living in Canada don't get to enjoy Qobuz. I am hoping, one day.
When Did Your System Disappear?
I agree with @david_ten Regarding his first point, when I got my now classic KEF 105's which enabled me to optimize the positions of the subwoofer and the mid-range & tweeter enclusures independently, I achieved incredible imaging and natural ...
Ellis Marsalis dead from corona virus
RIP Ellis. I am a fan of Wynton. I have and love to listen to his classical recordings.
How to upgrade "power cord" on turntable with wall wart?
I agree turntable performance is crucial. But in your case, it's not the cable really. Please get a better power supply (which uses decent cabling). I think that's the point.
