Does size really matter? :-
Nsgarch,Occasionally my accounting education proves useful. :-)Thanks for the info on different stylus profiles. I guess then the question is how comparable the stylus dimensions are when the styli have varying profiles. Dougdeacon has seen clear ...
"Streaming Audio' vs. HDRadio
Unclejeff,I see you've posted to other HD radio threads in the past. If some of the posters in those threads are correct in their assumption that HD radio is at most 96Kb, I think that explains why HD radio is inferior to a good Internet stream. A...
proper burn in for cd player
Low volume? If we're talking about burning in the CD player only, why does your amp even need to be on? How would the CD player know the difference?
"Streaming Audio' vs. HDRadio
Pabelson,While I agree the choice of codec makes a difference, the problem is we rarely get to make that choice in the streaming radio world. I agree that at the same bitrate, AAC beats MP3 - Ogg Vorbis probably beats both. But I'm not aware of an...
"Streaming Audio' vs. HDRadio
The determining factor here is definitely the bitrate of the stream. If you have dialup, it's impossible to get a high quality stream as the bandwidth just won't support it. My experience is a 64Kb stream is listenable on computer speakers at work...
HELP, Pls - re Automatic Turntables, Vintage/New
If your budget is $600 and you're looking at Technics, you can buy a new Technics 1200 from KAB:http://www.kabusa.comI haven't heard one, but a number of users here have them and seem very happy with them, claiming that with mods they can compete ...
HELP, Pls - re Automatic Turntables, Vintage/New
I owned a Thorens 190 for a few months as an interim table. The tonearm limits your cartridge choices, but it was perfectly serviceable with the OEM Ortofon OMB-10, and could have easily been upgraded to the OM-40 with just a stylus change. Quiet,...
Best player for Poorly Recorded redbook CDs?
Tvad,I think you were too quick to withdraw your suggestion of adding tubes. In my experience, tubes improve the sound of ALL CDs, not just the poorly recorded ones. While EQ might do some of the same things, I would think it might hurt the good C...
Music Hall CD-25.5 vs CD-25 w/mods??
Pmt1209,I had a 15 year old Adcom GCD-575, which was a great player and cost me $650 in 1990. The transport finally gave up the ghost. My Onix XCD-88, $250 for a B stock with warranty, blew it away. I'd expect your Yamaha to suffer the same fate.
Good Interconnects for NAD?
I agree with Mapleleafs3 and Tobias, your money is better spent on the CD player. Here's another suggestion:http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=processors&product=48.1The Onix is the same internally as the Music Hall, and less ex...
Drone Zone on SomaFM - anyone listening?
My wife and I listen to Drone Zone all the time as our sleep music. We also like Cryosleep, which is now only on Shoutcast. There are lots of ambient/electronica stations out there, but those are the only two we've found with no beats at all, whic...
Time To Replace Tubes?
Seekburk,See my posting in this thread:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1136483835&openfrom&18&4#18I strongly recommend dampers on at least your 6SN7s, if not all your tubes. They make a world of difference on my pream...
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
Mine was an Adcom GCD-575 that I paid $650! for in about 1989. It was head and shoulders above the cheaper drives I listened to, and served me well for over 15 years. Just last fall the transport finally gave up the ghost, and I replaced it with a...

Aural Moon - www.auralmoon.com - includes the Gagliarchives plus a whole lot more - prog rock at its bestSomaFM - www.somafm.com - techno, electronica, lounge, indie - all stations at least 128k and very well programmed, plus lots of other formats...
Herbie's Hal-O tube dampener's on Calypso?
I have to agree with Jafox on this one, it's worth trying the inexpensive solution first. I got 50 industrial grade silicone o-rings from here:http://www.marcorubber.com/material_selection.htmfor $10 plus shipping. I have a preamp with all octal t...
