Question for the older folks- did you ditch vinyl when cd arrived?

Yes, but with an asterisk: that switch coincided with when I left home.

Interesting story: About 12 years ago my mother "donated" a huge pile of vinyl records to a secondhand book store.  I found out where that store was, about 30 miles from their home.  Went there and went dumpster diving - literally - with my wife in tow standing outside the dumpster.  Rescued the old vinyl from my childhood and gained some additional treasures.

Apparently these thrift book stores throw away any vinyl that isn't Beatles.  

These days my vinyl is out on a large bookshelf and my CDs are in some dusty closet.  Oh, how times have changed...

Not A Chance in Hell! 

I accumulated all the records I hadn’t gotten during the sixties, which meant the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Moody Blues, records I hadn’t collected in the 1960s 1n 1970s. I was still in San Francisco, still a DJ. I got records every week through the record pool. I still have around 5,000 pieces of vinyl, down from 15,000. But those are ones I began buying in 1958. They’re going nowhere. Ever.

And my turntable is going nowhere, either  not even with me having a "top-of-the-world-Ma"  DCS converter! There’s something about how vinyl expands in a way that is entirely lifelike - and enthralling!!!

Besides, to my ears, digital was not remotely as good as vinyl if you were listening to the classical music forms: classical, jazz, gospel, blues, r&b and THE SINGERS! The Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Sinatra, Julie London, Kiri Te Kawana, Yma Sumac types of singers. They sound magnificent on vinyl, and just very, very, very good on digital. Vinyl is more 'effortless' musically in an audio medium, I find.

But I copied my CD's to a NAS drive and I now steam from Amazon

Everything is so good these days!
