Are you having problems with Upscale Audio?

Does anyone remember crazy Eddie, an electronic dealer in the 80s and 70s, we had outrageous commercials saying that his ‘prices are insane’

The company went out of business at some point later on.

Kevin from UA reminds me of this guy. He’s quite a salesman on YouTube. He canmake you feel happy about buying an empty box. Everybody needs a quality box you never know when you might need a quality box, look at how well those sides are secured and reinforced, it’s not just any box. A lot of craftsmanship went into the creation of that box and it looks terrific. 

Maybe he’s looking to sell the business and no longer involved in the business as much. Anybody ever talk to him on the phone?

I have had only great experiences with Upscale Audio. The first time was about 5 years ago when I finally decided it was time to replace my KEF 104 speakers. I had done a lot of research and decided I wanted to listen to Focal speakers and called to arrange a demo. Talked with a cool sales guy (no longer there), explained some issues with my listening room I couldn’t do much about because it is also the wife’s living room. He recommended I check out some Tannoy speakers while I was coming out there due to them able to sound good without ideal room and placement. My system at the time was based on Parasound Halo 6 and A21+, and they had a comparable SS system and a streaming DAC that was in the same general ballpark as mine. Left me alone to listen to the 3 sets of speakers (2 different Focal and Tannoy Cheviots) for about an hour. Decided I liked the Tannoys better, left, listened to some other speakers elsewhere, wanted the Tannoys and called back and got a good price on the floor models image demo’s.

A couple years and an amp upgrade later (to a Bryston 4b3), I was looking for an equivalent pre, and was reading a lot about tube preamps. Research led me to Primaluna. I wasn’t convinced about tubes with the music I listen to (a lot of loud rock of various types). Joel set up a demo with a Parasound JC5 amp comparable DAC/streamer to my own, and the Primaluna Evo 400 and a SS pre that was well-reviewed at the same price point. Again, after hanging out with me for the first 15 minutes, Joel left me alone while I and my friend ABd the different preamps. (I’ve been meaning for two years now to write this up because the tube pre sounded amazing in the store and then once I got it home; can’t recommend the PL highly enough). Got the pre home and thought I might have gotten a bad unit. Did some troubleshooting with Kevin that led to the embarrassing discovery that I’m installing the pre I had accidentally flipped my amp to mono. It was a real dumbshit thing on my part, but Kevin was really cool about the waste of his time, and was mainly happy that I loved how the pre made my music sound. Mind you, I was buying some real gear, but notuing like the real high end stuff where they are making their money, and I was still treated great, Including  the way in which they handled my preamp trade-in.  
 

I just wish Kevin was a little younger as I’m hoping he will be around if I ever get the money to bring my system to that elusive next level.
