LG vs. Sony 65” OLED

I’m moving and about to buy one of these TVs in the $1300 range and wondering if either is strongly favored for any reasons?  Sounds like the LG might be brighter/better for HDR but Sony may have better blacks/color and may be a little smoother/more film like with better upsampling and possibly better sound (I’ll be using my HT speakers for movies so not a huge deal there) but I dunno.  I won’t have an overly bright room (although glare could possibly be an issue so that could be important if one is better there) nor will I be doing much gaming so this is mainly for TV/movies, which kinda points me marginally to the Sony but love to hear thoughts.  My other main concern is reliability where both seem good but LG seems to have the edge there, which is not a small thing.

Also, I’ll be using the Ethernet connection from my router (that I’m buying separately rather than renting the crap from the cable company) instead of Wi-Fi so if anyone has found an Ethernet cable that’s made a significant improvement in the <$200 price range I’d be very interested in that as well.  Thanks!

I have the LG OLED and love it, except for the software. I found it way too much for my needs. Wants to do everything and be a media hub, when all I want it to do is be an output device.Used to use a Roku, plus a set top box from Novus, our local provider, but they upgraded me to fibre optic and 5G streaming and now everything is beautifully simple. Something I really appreciate as I get older. Lol. Picture is fantastic.

Don't know what your taste in shows is, but these are some of my recommendations at the moment.

Widow's Bay

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Silo

Slow Horses

Spider Noir

The Buroughs

Fallout

Severance

House of Dragons

Hijack

I often wonder about Sky “broadcasts” (if that’s the right word) in that they appear, at least to me, to being over-processed, and not unlike how TV screens look in dealer showrooms. Everything colour-wise just screams at you. In a dimly lit room it can be unbearable.

At my girlfriend’s house, she often switches to terrestrial for a more naturally satisfying picture if available on the same channel, so it’s not “just me”. Yes l reset her TV menus. Thinking now, l never have looked to see if the Sky Box can be manually adjusted…. Time to investigate!

I purchased a LG 55” C4 last fall.  I have no complaints other than I watch WAY MORE TV than I should now! Just general YT and YT TV stuff.  Once and a while I unplug it for a restart.

@mylogic l wonder how many people actually never bother to do anything to improve their expensive buys….”

For sure!  Every AirBnB tv haha.

@stereosanctity ”Every AirBnB tv……

For sure, yes!
A small price more than often means a small screen.

The only thing worse than a small screen is the terrible screechy sound that goes with it. The thinner the set, the thinner the sound, and then the subtitles have to go on!
