Record cleaning fluid for degritter machine

Ditch the alcohol.  Mix Tergitol with distilled water.  I use 0.5% Tergitol, that is 0.5 ml/L (Tergitol/Water) then rinse with pure distilled water.  If you are cleaning mostly new or near new records, you could reduce the concentration down to one drop of Tergital to one liter of distilled water and no rinse.  I strongly recommend that you read Neil Antinn's book on cleaning records, which you can find on line for free. 

There's a long thread on Hoffman, after the discussion about the newness of the machine and its iterations, concerning surfactants. I think some users concluded that surfactant free was the way to go. The biggest issue, to me, is getting the residue off the record. You might find the thread addresses your question in terms of proportions and results. Neil weighed in there too as I recall. Good luck!

As a new Degritter owner I have to ask - what’s wrong with the manufacturer’s solution? I clean all new records and occasionally a chestnut from my garage storage.

I typically make a tergitol Solution with distilled water and apply it to the record with a kabuki brush before putting it in the degritter. And then use the degritter record cleaning fluid in the first tank. After running through the heavy cycle on the degritter I have a second tank that I use to rinse With only distilled water. I find that this works well. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the fluid supplied with the degritter machine But I think tergitol is worthwhile and is particularly effective if it is applied before the wash with a brush. This is far more effective than any other method I have used Including cleaning by hand or with a vacuum machine. 

If using 91% IPA, recommended amount is 2.5 to 5.0% and with the DG tank = 1,400-ml, the quantity at 2.5% = (0.025/0.91) x 1,400-ml rounding down = 35-ml.  For 5%, double the amount to 70-ml.
