My best bang for buck has been repurposing my Roon ROCK NUC as a Windows server.
I already owned dBpoweramo Asset UPnP, so all it's cost me so far was £130 for an external SSD to give extra security with the music files while reformatting the internal SSD drive for music files. I have another £40 or so to pay for the Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC licence. So basically I've got a considerable upgrade in sound quality for a total outlay of around £170.
Yes, there's a downgrade in functionality, but on the positive side I'll be saving $280 equivalent ongoing annual Roon subscription.
