Spring Cleaning your system, how long does it take?

I’m curious, how often do my fellow hobbyists undertake a “spring cleaning” of their systems, and how long does it take to complete?

I recently disassembled my entire system for some thorough cleaning; removing all cables, moving all components off the racks, dusting/cleaning all shelves and components, and re-running speaker and subwoofer cables, in addition to a good dusting of the room itself. This endeavor took me several hours, spread over 3 days. Not to mention the total weight of all the equipment I had to move around (several hundred pounds).

Looking around at all the cables and components laid out across the floor, I was reminded of how complex my system is, and how intimidating this hobby can appear to be. I know firsthand that a good sounding stereo system can be achieved without this much intricacy, for me though, assembling is part of the fun. It’s the destination and the journey that I find fulfilling.

Maybe I spoke too soon. I went from a 18 lb preamp to a 45 lb two piece tube pre and a pair of 50 lb tube monos and will be switching all my cables to balanced. At 68 years old and suffering from a massive loss of muscle , I’ll see what happens next year. It’s 100* here in the summer and I’m considering class D amps. My speakers at 54” tall and 125 lbs , I’m not moving them. Unfortunately I live in the dust capital of central California.  +1 @kennyc , I was a gym rat back in the day. In Pumping Iron Arnold said “ Da pump is bettah den da ohgasm “ , I strongly disagree with that statement. 😆 Cheers my peers , Mike B.

@patrickalston , Beautiful system ! If I could afford your level of gear I’d just pay someone to clean it. 😎 Much Respect, Mike B.

@buellrider97 Thanx, I enjoy it everytime I listen.  It has taken a lot of patience and almost 40 years to curate.  My focus has been to make a components list and stick to it with no deviations.  I never purchased something to get me over until I saved the money for my dream piece, I have no kids leeching from my wallet, and a wife who doesn't question my purchases (and I dont question what's in the boxes that she gets delivered).

I do it about once a year each for the 3 systems in my home.  My two channel system doesn’t take long but the 2 HT systems are a b**** because of the built in furniture with the wires being buried by design.  I do those systems when I have to dig around there for some other reason
