1st Impression, Join the Forum?

I watched this forum for a while before I decided to join in 2019. I'm glad I did, however recently, if watching, I wonder if someone would enthusiastically join.

This was based on my initial experiences when joining the Sony Cybershot Forum on Digital Photography Review (dprreview.com) back in 2012.

Sony had announced a new game-changing camera, and I was among many wanting to learn more before it became available.

After joining, I found there were some nasty people, and many members who wasted their and everybody's time baiting and arguing, on and on. My 1st impression was not good, however, the coming camera (rx100m1 late 2012) made me stick around.

Thankfully, the nasty people went elsewhere, thus poor reactions lessened, and if someone joined after that, their 1st impression would be as it is now, one of the friendliest forums on the site. It has stayed very positive since around 2013.

Humor, I'm all for it, one mistake is to assume people 'get' my sense of humor, and I forget that English is not some members primary language.

I'm certainly no one's mom, morality police, but I would like to be proud of the forum.

1. the image must be already anywhere on the web

2. right-click the image: copy image address

3. this window: top bar, 6th icon from the left, IMAGE, click it

4. a window opens, waiting for you to paste the Image's URL (it's address on the internet). Paste the Image Address in that URL box

5. width: enter 600 (the height will be automatically entered)

6. click OK

maybe you can tell me how I am explaining it wrong, because I have written the solution several times, and otherwise intelligent people aren’t getting it.

reminds me of when people could not set the clocks in the early VCRs, thus they couldn’t set the guide to record, thus worthless.

I just re-wrote the instructions, a bit differently

@billstevenson , others

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO COPY AND PASTE ??????????????????

what is unclear? have you tried it? try it right now! That’s an order!!!!!!!!!!

1. prep: open a post your response window, see the top bar of icons, see 6th from left, icon of sun over mountains (Image), you will use that later

2. new browser window, go here:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/threads/mini-challenge-818-whats-the-story.4839069/#post-68715226

3. hover your pointer over this image (or any following image you like)

4. right click, a pop-up window appears: find and select ’copy image address’ (it’s url)

5. back to post window, click the image icon, a dialog box pops open, an insert already blinking in the url line, waiting for you to:

6. paste the image address you copied (it’s url)

..................................

not done, now it’s about preventing distortion, you will change the width

7. width box: delete whatever is there, change it to 600.

8. click OK

The clock is ticking!!!!!

I have been on audio forums for a number of years, and have seen the rise and fall of sites like Audioreview, the glory days of Audio Asylum, the diminishment of Vinyl Engine, and so on.

This site has endured, and stays relevant. I only post in stops and starts here, usually when I have a project going. I find the information shared to be thoughtful and given in good spirit. Just like every site there are folks that people get along with well, and then there are others that, well, not so much. You learn what posts you can gloss over, who not to engage with, and so forth.

Overall, Audiogon is one of my favorite places to visit, as the people here are still hobbyists who have a love for music and the equipment we play it on.

this isn't about bots

@elliottbnewcombjr Re photo posting, I know. That's why I included "no need to rehash". The agon inability to include images directly in posts (without putting them on the web somewhere beforehand) is suboptimal.

Thanks @elliottbnewcombjr @oberoniaomnia, I really appreciate your effort to coach me.  Somehow there is a disconnect.  I want to send you a picture of my turntable (for example).  To do that I first have to get it on the internet somehow?  Right oh, how?  No, never mind.  It is just not worth the effort to me.  Besides, there are just so many pictures of turntables that people can stand to look at anyway.  Audiogon is smart to make it hard.  Otherwise we would all clutter up the site with a bunch of pictures that really do not advance civilization as we know it by much at all.  ;-)
