Who do you turn to when you have the envies for funk?

FYI, envies, pronounced on-vees, is a cajun term for when you have the need, wants or have to haves for something usually food or music. As I cull and play grade my vinyl collection I am not so very surprised by how much funky music has made its way into my collection and thought it would be interesting to see who others go to for their funk. My go to artist for the most part are War, The Meters, Professor Longhair, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly the Family Stone, J Geils/Peter Wolf, George Clinton, James Brown, and Curtis Mayfield for the most part. Please add yours as I am always looking to get more funk in my life. Thanks for reading. Enjoy the music

Ohio Players and Zapp band.  They played for my private school when I was in 8th grade.  Our head master had no idea what they were all about.  "Skin Tight" shocked the prepsters

All great responses!

WXPN has been my favorite radio station since the early 1980s. Broadcasting from the University of Pennsylvania and streaming worldwide at xpn.org, WXPN is a commercial-free, listener-supported station that offers a highly personal and expertly curated mix of music. Their programming spans blues, jazz, urban, country, indie, folk, rock, and just about everything in between, making it one of the most diverse and engaging stations on the air.

One of my favorite traditions is Funky Friday, which airs every Friday beginning at 4:00 PM Eastern Time. I’ve been tuning in to Funky Friday since the summer of 1993, and it remains a weekly highlight. WXPN continues to deliver an unmatched musical experience built around discovery, passion, and great taste rather than commercial playlists.

Maybe too obvious but not only is this one of the best "funk" albums of all time, I'd honestly put it in the top album albums of all time.

how about Brick, Cameo, Brass Construction, Slave, BT Express, Mandrill, Crown Heights Affair, Curtis Blow, Sugar Hill Gang, Ojay’s, Temptations, Harold Melvin,  Head Hunters, Jimmy Castor Bunch, James Brown, Kleer, FatBack Band, Fela Kuti, Miles, Lonnie Smith….etc

This thread is a great reminder for me to dust off a few titles, and maybe explore some new ones.  Let’s add Peter Brown.
