YouTube Jazz

Just came across a video on YouTube of Lyle Mays & Alex Acuna - Duo #1/ Spectrasonics Sessions.

I’ve streamed a bit of music on YouTube but I was really surprised at this recording. I have a simple setup, Treo speakers new, Belles integrated (2 years old) and a Linn Dac from 2021.

The recording really impressed me, better than my Qobuz.

I listened to a few more of the other recordings and the same sound.

What a find, did not know that YouTube recordings were this tight.

YouTube audio is inherently lossy, much like mp3 files. Some people prefer that type of dynamically restricted sound.

The true value of YouTube, and it is huge, is the availability of fantastic and in some cases invaluable historical live recordings of great artists.  It truly is amazing in that regard,  I would bet that, whether you were expecting it or not, the music that you refer to really turned you on.  Having said that, I find that much of what is available on YouTube is acceptable by any reasonable (serves the music) standard, if not some audiophile standard.
