I have had the upgrade done, and it is a remarkable improvement in virtually all areas over the v.3 (which in itself was a marked improvement from the original version). I agree with you, I prefer the one-box player now that my listening space has gotten significantly smaller (I originally had the EMM DCC2/CDSD combination before I was set to move). The upgrade is pricey, but I think it's worth it sonically, and the new transport is an added bonus.
EMM LABS XDS1- VERSIION FOUR
Over the last few months I have discovered that my XDS! CDP can be further upgraded with the latest DAC technology along with other advancements which has been "trickled down" from their latest versions of separate components. So I sent it to the shop for the upgrade (which also includes a new transport). I would hope that Stereophile or the Absolute Sound would like to take a listen. I usually prefer a one-box player instead of, for example, the Esoteric array which is beautiful but I would not want to fill up "one side of the room" while wondering where to place a turntable or other source components. Check it out.
