To Equalize or Not to Equalize

I should have mentioned that I listen to CD, Vinyl, and some streaming - in that order of frequency (no pun intended).  Sorry about that.  So an app or program wouldn't be a complete solution.  I am seeking a hardware solution.

Looks like some piece of Schiit gear (another obvious and well worn pun) is a consensus so far.  I didn't know they had a trial period.

I think I'll head back to their website.

I had an ADC equalizer way back in 1980-ish.  I don't recall how effective it was but then again it was in a pretty low end system.  I'm hoping that the gear available today is better and more suited to the job at hand.

@curiousjim - your right, the room is the biggest influence.  I have pretty much done what I can there.  It's a small-ish basement room but I get it all to myself - the wife never comes down to listen, she just calls when it gets too loud ;-).

I have a big thick rug, heavy window treatments, and there are only a few pieces of furniture.  Most of the wall space is for CD's and Vinyl storage. 

I have a Schiit Lokius, which is the non motorized version, and use it sparingly to dial in a loudness contour for normal low volume listening. I wouldn’t like to be without it. It doesn’t seem to detract from the system’s transparency, which would be a deal breaker if it did…but it don’t!

I have the Loki Max (pre forkbeard model) and love it. Between the defeat switch and the 3 presets, I can get to a Fletcher Munson curve approximation for most every listening volume.
