Lumin X2 Has anyone used this device yet?

Lumin X2 Has anyone used this device yet?

I own the Lumin X1 and I have been very happy with it. Recently Lumin has now released the X2 model.

The updated X2 is supposed to have superior internal components that exceed the X1 in sonic attributes.

Still, there doesn't seem to be much info that I can find about it compared to the X1.

“So, I still don’t see the benefit of the Lumin L2 or Melco unit.”

Ozzy,

I can understand your mystification with the L2 and Melco.  How could they possibly make a difference beyond simply adding a hard drive/NAS?  I can’t speak for Melco but in my system, the L2 was a game changer.  I use it both as a switch and a library.  I also use an EtherRegen with fiber out (turned around from typical use) to the L2 and then fiber to the X2.  One of its RJ45 copper inputs feeds my Roon NUC.  I suggest you read some of the L2 reviews from the Lumin website.  They do a much better job than I could in describing its benefits.

@ozzy I think your setup is the cleanest way to go. Fibre direct into the DAC. The X1 (I owned), X2, and a $42k Linn DAC laugh are the only 3 DACs I know of that have fibre going directly into the DAC. Why mess with that? The X1 was also one of the very best streamers I have heard. That fibre connection is top end.

If my third and last Sonore OpticRendu (streamer) dies the Lumin U2x (streamer no DAC) is what I am considering, or the new upgraded Sonore OpticalRendu,

mifanning thanks for the link.

I rarely play the music on my hard drive. I actually think the music from Qobuz sounds as good.

yyzsantabarbara,

I am at the stage that simpler is better, less cable, shelve space, etc.

I am using fiber with the Lumin X2 as I did with the X1. In my opinion it is a big upgrade sound quality wise over ethernet.

I have been using an EtherRegen for that conversion for many years, but they have constantly promised a newer EtherRegen "Gen 2" version. I don’t think it is gonna happen. So, my question is; Is there a newer/different unit that outperforms the Etherregen?
