MoFi SourcePoint 8 - 90 days in - Update

I promised a few forum members that I would do a follow-up after I had a chance to get the SP-8s dialed in to my taste.  The set up is as follows:

1) SP-8s are 3ft from back wall and about 7ft apart with very slight toe in.

   1.1) Rythmik 12 servo sub and SVS 3000 Micro sub.

2) Listening position is about 10ft-12ft back.

3) Linn LP12, Ittok Black, Ortofon MC-X30 repaired by VAS with Boron and Nude Microline (MC-X40), Linn Linto Phono Stage Aragon 24k preamp, Aragon 4004 MKII amp.

I plugged the ports on the SP8s with foam port plugs, Set the SVS sub at 60hz 6db xo with very little gain.  Crossed the Rythmik at 50hz 24db xo. Eliminating the port frequency and crossing the SVS at 60hz (very low gain) really tightened up the very bottom - not to say that it was sloppy to begin with.  It creates a smooth transition to the Rythmik sub and allows me to slightly increase it’s gain without it getting boomy at the bottom.  You can’t tell that they are even involved in the music unless you know that the SP-8 rolls off sharply at 47hz with the ports open.

After 90 days of letting my mind move on from 20+ years with the Apogee Stages, I am very impressed with the Neutrality of these speakers and the level of detail they produce from top to (their) bottom.  They play very big at very low volumes. As with other reviews I have read or heard, I dare not say "warm".  Just big.  In that bigness, there is very well-defined details.  Nothing bright, nothing fat, nothing out of proportion at any point in the frequency spectrum. 

I just listened to my favorite recordings - UHQR - Aja, John Coletrain and Johnny Hartman, Pop-Pop - Rickey Lee jones, Random Access Memories - Daft Punk, Live at Massie Hall 1971 - Neil Young, Go for Your Guns - Isley Brothers, and many more. 

All I can say is that out of all of those recordings I did not hear anything that made me say - I wish the Sourcepoint 8s did xxx better. They fit the room and they suit my tastes. They are designed for listening to the music more than the equipment - not to say that the equipment is not a critical component.  I know that more money will get you more "whatever", but when you look at the costs of the components in my analog chain, they are also right for the amount of money that I choose to spend on my equipment journey.
