Subwooofer with Monoblocks set up question

A recent post by @patrickalston got me to thinking about my own potential monoblock situation.

In a few days, I plan to start testing out replacing my CODA CSiB (V2) integrated for a pair of Gato PWR-222 monoblocks with the Spatial Lab Raven preamp.  The Raven has one set of XLR outputs and one set of RCAs, and they can be used simultaneously.  In that room i have 1 REL T/9x and no room for a 2d sub. Gato and REL are quite clear that you cannot connect 2 monoblocks to a single subwoofer.

My plan is to connect the Raven to the PWR-222s via XLRs and to use the single-ended outputs to connect the Raven to a Schiit GJALLARHORN F and connect the REL T/9x to the stereo speaker outputs of the GJALLARHORN F. My theory is that this will avoid the potential shorting of the Gatos and allow both right and left channel bass signals to get to the REL. (The Schiit will actually be connected to the REL Arrow transmitter, so the T/9x is electrically safe in any case, i think.).

As the GJALLARHORN F is Class AB non-differential, I can connect the REL high-level cable in the normal/simple way without needing to float the ground cable or ground it to the amp chassis.

Gemini agrees that this approach is technically sound.

Does anybody on here think i am about to do something very bad or stupid?  I really don’t want to damage the Gatos.

Thanks!

@lanx0003 Alas, the Rel T/9x is not compatible with that wireless unit; it only works with the Arrow.

I am now wondering if i can fit 2 Class 98s in that room instead of the T/9x.  Then i could just connect them in the normal, 1 per channel/monoblock way.  I’ve never heard the Classic series though.  I created a new post-thread on that option hoping to hear impressions from those who have.

thanks again for all the advice and guidance!

Very interesting.  Only Arrow does not have low-level option.  Ha!  Wonder why Mr. Hunter did that.

I only tried two locations for my T/9x, including corner and inner side of the left speaker, recessed about a foot with another foot away from the front wall.  And I luckily found the 2nd position work the best after crawling over several other possible locations. (speakon cable is long enough to support that)  I never thought of wireless connection.

Learn something everyday.  Thank you, Kirk, and good luck again.

Really helpful, @lanx0003 .  I am home now and remeasureing things. I do have room for a 2d T/9x. So maybe that is the better approach.

I also might have room to stack 2 S/550s, but that is a step up in cost.  I am going to ask REL if there is anyway to stack the T/9xs, because that would the very best solution for this room.

The very best reason to use line level inputs is to insert a DSP along the way.  While you can't fix all nulls, the peaks are actually a bigger problem.

Having big peaks prevents you from turning the sub up to the right level.

@erik_squires , If i wanted to use Roon’s DSP, would it matter if the subs were connected High-level (i.e., to the amps) or low-level (i.e., to the pre-amp line outs)?
