Mine is The Doobie Brothers, at the Civic Center in Amarillo Texas, in 1976. I was 16 years old.

The weed smoked all around us was good  too.

Genesis   Capital Theater Passaic NJ 1976.  They played the whole Lamb Lies down on Broadway double album without a break.

Elvis, yes, that Elvis. Nassau Coliseum 1975. He was magnificent.

We snuck down from our lousy, up high seats and saw Him close up for about 15 minutes before we got chased.

I’ve been at this since 1975, so there were many many good ones, but in more recent memory- The Brothers at MSG last year. It was 3 Plus hours of Derek and Warren finding excellence and excitement from those guitars. Chuck Leavell was in- I can’t remember a more draining and, truly, amazing night of rock and soul.

I can go into the B-52’s at the Ritz in 1982, I can’t tell you if it was the cocaine and or the sinsemilla and the Jack, but that band was on fire that night and it’s still memorable. The ’80s were fking wonderful in retrospect.

Ozzy at The Ritz as well. Sloppy but crazy good. At least for me.

And last month at the fantastic Capitol Theater in Port Chester, one of my favorite places to see anything, I was once again captivated by Gillian Welsh and David Rawlings playing their favorite Grateful Dead tunes- and I’ll say better than anything I’ve ever heard from The Dead themselves, but I was never much of a Dead fan. I could have done another 2 hours from them. See Gillian Welch if you ever get the chance. Her and David never disappoint.

Genesis , Boston Music Hall 1974

King Crimson ,  Orpheum Theater , Boston 1974....just stunning and powerful

Well let's see, I saw the Ramones at least fifteen times, likely more, so I'll pick the first dozen or so times I saw them as that was with the original band. Can't beat that.

I’ve had a few memorable shows for different reasons. Overall the most fun and entertaining was Hall&Oates at Bethel woods.  They came on full of energy ripped thru all of their hits and played them like with an enthusiasm like it’s the first time they played them.  Now they hate each other….go figure.

Next is Van Halen with Hagar at izod arena in NJ…. They were great. Eddie was sober.  And a marvel to watch but their opening act was a largely unknown Alice In Chains and they blew me away.  I wondered who these guys were and now we know …very talented guys. Great live.

Another is The Cult at wellmont theater in Montclair, NJ.  They came on and played nearly 2hrs of straight up meat and potatoes rock n roll.  All killer no filler.

Radiohead at MSG for their technical wizardry.

John Fogerty at St. Augustine- he finally had control of his catalog and played them like long lost old friends.
And the worst show- Joe Jackson barely played any hits, played new stuff and claimed he wasn’t an oldies act. Way to alienate a fan base.
