One Component You Would Never Change One Type You Would Return To

You are given an opportunity to revamp the system. Is there one component you would never change, and one you would want to return to?

 

For me my SOTA Cosmos Eclipse with Origin Live Agile tonearm is an end game table. It will not leave. I might put a different cartridge on it, and have been considering moving my Kiseki Blackheart to it. I would like to try the Audio Technica ART20 on it also. 

What I would return to is SET amplification and tube preamp. I have loved the sound of SET gear, and left because speakers I bought meant I needed different amplification. 

 

That is the rub. To return to SET I would need something other than my JBL 4365. They are expensive, large, and hard to sell. Also I would never get them back, as nice a shape as mine are or as affordable a price. 

For SET I would need something like the Pure Audio open baffles. Or possibly a pair of Klipsch Belle where I would retrofit a modern horn like the Fastrax or something equivalent

 

What would yours be?

Ive reached a point in life when I dont compromise.  Except for my streamer, an Eversolo A8,  I can live with everything else and be perfectly happy until I punch out.   Although, at some point I max upgrade my BAT VK120s to BAT Rex monos, beyond that and upgrading my digital transport, Im good.  My BAT Rex 3 DAC stays, forever along my Rex Preamp, Stax SRX/MK 3 headphones and Martin Logan CLS 1s that ive owned for decades.  I dont believe in incremental upgrading, try to be patient until I can buy my endgame.  That way, I buy once and cry once.

Never change: Pure Audiophile Project Trio15 Horn1 speakers, although our next move to a much smaller home, whenever that may be, may likely require a change. And if it does, my first trial will be a smaller model from PAP.

Return to: Even though I don’t feel the need at all, I’d like my pair of subwoofers back to add to my system. I had to sell them to fund my purchase of the PAP Trios and I have zero budget anymore (retired, barely hanging on) to purchase any subs.

The past few months of becoming familiar with some new audio devices used in the home system, especially recently acquired Speakers. Has had a profound effect on me.

I could happily shelve much of what is created as amplification for my audio system over many many years. Experiencing SS equipment has really hit a home run with me.

My home has been filled with music in a way not experienced for more than 20 years.

I do really enjoy this open mind attitude I keep, and the willingness to experience a broad range of audio in the home and at the home of others.

Fortunately my Wife loves the idea of a SS System personal to her, so a second system will now be a SS Source > Amplification. Enabling myself to choose which type of music experience I want within the home. 

A friends home design DAC which is a Hybrid I believe, a 10Y Valve is definitely in use. Which has made a recent debut in the local audio group, has made a substantial impression on the digital Sources it has been attached to.

It will be at my home on May 30th, and I sense, the impression will be one where the need to continue with Vinyl as a Source is questioned.

Such a challenge so shortly after the SS Phon' become available surprise , it looks like Wifey will have a exceptional Vinyl Front End for her Album collection.
