Can This Idea Be A Viable Resource

I’ve been thinking about traveling more now that my wife and I are fully retired. Which lead to me to wonder and lament in equal measure about how I miss my sound system when we travel for a lengthly - more than a week - duration. The idea is can us like minded, trusting but willing to accept liability guidelines, folks, create a network of homes we are willing to rent / trade out - with audiophile grade systems we can shop = like we presently do when we plan a vacation? I would love to spend a week or two in a home with a killer rig that I can test drive -

… how I miss my sound system when we travel

Maybe a portable solution like a portable DAP (Digital Audio Player) like Astell&Kern coupled with a high quality earphones/headphones/iem/ciem.  If so, maybe look at reviews like on Headphonia or Headphonics

Cell phone, a pair of quality earphones, and access to Wi-Fi anywhere in the world.

@stesol i had a very similar thought cross my mind earlier this year and then again last month. My spouse & I usually don’t travel for pure leisure unless we can go for 2.5-4 weeks, and although i enjoy the travel we do immensely, I miss my audio while we are away.  So I too, while in NZ in January and in Rome, Naples and fairly remote parts of Sardinia in April and May, had a similar question. But then I asked myself, would I rent out my home without very specialized insurance and a very high security deposit?  And if so, who would sign on to that cost?  And even with that, some of my most prized equipment is no longer made (e.g., Rowland 625 S2, amp, CORUS preamp, Power Storage Unit and maybe also the Aeris DAC); so what would be the replacement value? And would it be enough to buy new equally engaging equipment? And how long it would it take for me to figure out what that was? So I retreated to the solace of my decent T+A Solitaire T wireless headphones; not nearly the same, but adequate and highly portable. ( @kennyc  ‘s suggestion is even better from a fidelity perspective.)

And then I also thought that one potential reason to travel is to get away from the comforts & routines of home and experience different things. In circumstances like that — as opposed to say a beach or ski retreat — having a 2-channel system in a vacation rental that engaged me as much as mine might defeat a lot of the reason for leaving home. (I give my spouse permission to smack me if I ever say “I can’t [hike the Routeburn Track/go see another Caravaggio /fill in the location appropriate blank] today; this system sounds too good!”)

REALLY?  Would you let someone you don't know from a hockey puck fool around with your, presumably, very expensive sound system?  Suppose that vacationing or travelling party happens to be a family with children, small children, maybe a dog or two or more.  I'd like to see or read that liability statement!  Nice idea in concept but totally foolhardy in practice.  I'm with kennyc!  Think portable solution.

I think it is more reasonable to have a site to ask other audiophiles (in areas you will be traveling) to invite you, to meet and hear their system, perhaps new friends for life.
