Three things I’ve learned about listening.

1. If you listen for sonic problems you’ll find them.

2. Since it is a hobby, you feel you have to play with it.

3. If it sounds really good, leave it alone!

I agree with the above. This happens sometimes and is a bit of a let down. It’s very hard to explain why, but it is just one of
                                                           Those

                                                                      Weird

                                                                                 Things…….

                                                                                                                 🎢

We are all responsible for our own self induced neurosis.  Some learn to recognize that and deal with it in a responsible,  reasoned manner. Some don't. And of course there are many levels to this neurosis. The most important thing is to recognize we can control our reactions. Best.

I don't get the collecting thing, unless it is for stamps, coins, art (I guess if you don't hang it and look at it sometimes), baseball cards.....things that are not used somehow - they are just looked at. I have baseball cards that are old, but worth very little since they are not in mint condition. Unless you are trying to make it into a  business.

It seems to me a waste to have a record and never play it, hope to play it, or even remember it. They just take up space. I guess you could say you collect the album covers as art if you have them on display.

Same for stereo equipment if you don't ever play it or hope to play it. Maybe if you use it for parts it's not being collected.

Listening to music is definitely a hobby as is tinkering with stereo equipment. You can have one or both of them. I guess collecting records is another hobby.

I don't like car collectors who never drive them, unless they are considered art and super expensive. But I guess a lot of them are trying to make money off of them as a business or side hustle.

Things like watches or pens or jewelry is ok as long as you use or wear them sometimes. Just having something to have it is a waste.

I’m an analytical listener by nature. I can’t help it. It’s just how I listen to music. I used to listen to all the minute details. But I’ve migrated from analyzing that, to analyzing the delicacy of the mids and treble. Still analytical, but completely different approach. So it’s very hard for me not to notice the flaws of a system.

That being said... My system ATM is more or less perfect. Martin Logan Summit X speakers. Coda s5.5 amplifier.

Could always benefit a bit more in dynamic range but I’ve found this can be adjusted with different cables.
