Buying a Luxman L505z from Japan

Hey, so I’m looking to purchase a Luxman L505z from Japan - I will need a 120-100v step down transformer . I wanted to find out if anyone has experience with this and if it will compromise the sound in anyway? I saw one from a dealer on eBay with a 99% rating, but I’m unsure if I should trust it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated

@edubbers

I have a Luxman Japan SACD player using a voltage converter and it sounds fantastic.

However the CD tray occasionally does not stay open and Luxman North America will not work on it.  I would have to ship it to Japan, which is expensive and time consuming.  The tray works 95% of the time so I am good, a more serious flaw and I would not be happy.

Also given the relatively low power demands of a CD player the transformer is a non issue.  I would be wary of using a transformer on an amplifier which has much higher more demanding power requirements.

@dwest1023 hey, where did you purchase from?
@rodac did you get yours from Japan or locally- also what transformer did you pick up ?

@edubbers A lot of the guys selling on Ebay are just going to buy it from a store and make a few yen. They don't actually own what they are selling.  If you send me a PM I could suggest some alternatives that have worked for me.

Hey @dwest1023

i bought mine on US Audiomart from a local user.  It came with an Accupwr 500W transformer and initially I wondered if it was powerfully enough but after several months of listening I found that it’s perfectly adequate and sounds fabulous!
