Favorite Beatles Song

Mine is Hey Jude

For mostly sentimental reasons:

She Loves You

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

These two songs bring back memories of my early teenage days, walking the streets in the neighborhood with two or three friends singing along at the top of our lungs to our transistor radio that we carried everywhere we went. It seemed like a Beatles song was played on the radio every ten minutes and we couldn't get enough of it. Their music eventually got much more sophisticated and complex, but it was never the same as it was at the beginning.

Great question, but for me it depends on what mood I'm in.

A Day in the Life has been often singled out as being top-of-the-heap regarding individual songs, but sometimes it's the little quirky ones that get my attention.

For example, on the (BluRay version of) Why Don't We Do It in the Road, Ringo's drum intro is incredible to me: what trickery is going on? (Listen to it again loud; the take was recorded in cavernous Studio 3, set up for an orchestra the next day, which gives it the echo.)

According to Jeff Lynn, Electric Light Orchestra was formed because he was so impressed with one Beatles song: I Am the Walrus.

"I buried Paul" anyone?

"Revolution 9".  I’m serious.  My undergraduate minor was Electronic Music Composition. "9" doesn’t break any ground formally, but it’s a masterpiece of craft.

#2 is "Let it Be".
