Tubes: 5687 / 7119 / E182CC How to Test Them?

Tubes: 5687 / 7119 / E181CC     How to Test Them?

I cannot find any info to test my friend's 5687 Tubes (in my little Accurate 157 or the big Jackson I gave my friend) Or my tube sustitution book. Or my English Equivalent book.

No info for the other numbers 7119 and E182CC either.

Ideas____?

Wonderful, I downloaded it, cut, pasted, made my own doc and printed it. Called my friend, told him I could test them, and to only buy 5687's, not any supposed substitutes.

@buellrider97

good idea, I'll keep it in mind for the future.

What model/unit will the 5687 tube be used in?

Oddly - the info on the AI info link I posted "changed" since I posted it (just checked) so I'm not certain as to what info you saved.

I really, really, really have a bad feeling about AI on a whole.

I saved and printed it, still there for me

accurate 157 tube tester settings for 5687

The

Accurate Instrument Model 157

 typically tests the

5687

medium-mu dual triode as two separate sections using the following settings:

5687 Tube Test Settings

Section Filament G K Load
Section 1 6.3V (D) 2 3 25
Section 2 6.3V (D) 1 3 25

Operating Instructions

  1. Filament Voltage: Set the filament switch to D (6.3V).
  2. Shorts Test: Always perform a shorts test before checking for quality to avoid damaging the meter.
  3. Section Testing: To test the second triode section, change the G switch as indicated in the chart. Both sections should ideally have similar readings for a balanced tube.
  4. Load Control: The "Load" or "English" control setting of 25 is standard for high-current triodes like the 5687 on emission-type testers.

If your specific chart version differs, you can verify these by cross-referencing with a remastered 157 manual

eBay

 or a 1965-68 chart supplement

Elektrotanya

Are you seeing a specific discrepancy or a "bad" reading on a tube you believe is good?

the links to the manual and supplement worked.

I reduced my zoom to show a whole page, made screenshots of each of the two supplement pages, cropped and printed them!

My friend has custom made amps, monoblocks, 8 or 12 wpc. Big Power Tubes, we cannot test them either, no proper socket, he has several pairs of matched quads.

OK good - glad you got the info.

I have a shoe box size drawer full of new testing 5687's, but lack the energy to list them.

Years/decades ago (when communication was more open) I gave @ least a hundred of them away to people building a popular 5687 based preamp and to AN owners.

I received most of them gratis from a tube dealer who was checking out with terminal cancer (he included them with my order for some other tubes and said the @ $3-$5 a pop they were not worth selling - they are yours now).

I sold my 2 good testers years ago TV-7/DU & 539C and kept a TV7 that only "properly" tests  DHT tubes like 300B and 2A3 (not accurate with small triodes and EL34, EL84 et cetera).

The local guy who refurbished TV7's retired before I was able to send it (the last TV7) to him.

Pity as he was s 20 minute drive (in LA traffic) from me.
