Tubes: 5687 / 7119 / E182CC How to Test Them?

Tubes: 5687 / 7119 / E181CC     How to Test Them?

I cannot find any info to test my friend's 5687 Tubes (in my little Accurate 157 or the big Jackson I gave my friend) Or my tube sustitution book. Or my English Equivalent book.

No info for the other numbers 7119 and E182CC either.

Ideas____?

Plug them into a circuit designed for them and listen. Vintage tube testers like yours usually are not accurate for testing high transconductance tubes like those, because they don’t produce sufficient plate current. Furthermore some don’t even provide a 9 pin socket wired correctly for them.

Look for a "Supplement Chart" for your model.

I could not find a free download (just broken links), but perhaps you will do better.

E, I guess you know this, but E182CC =7119, different designations for the same tube. I think Jackson testers were made by Hickok so may be able to measure transconductance. For these tubes, transconductance is key to assessing their condition. To measure it meaningfully you need to supply relatively high plate (or anode) current. Which is a problem for most vintage testers.
