Almost not bearable.

Skimming through today's releases on qobuz and Tidal, saw that foo Fighters had a new record out and tapped play on qobuz.  After a 45 seconds into the first track I skipped to second thinking it was something wrong with the first but it's just as bad 😒 .

Started Tidal and it sounds better but just..

Anybody else had a listen and had a similar experience of this insane compressor abuse?

Personally I would never have let something like this leave my studio .

Tragic as it is I really like the songs and the record is after all really good 👍

Yeah that’s bad and sounds like it was recorded to be played over a boombox or in the car on AM radio.  I guess that’s the sound they were shooting for and they can have it as far as I’m concerned, but clearly we’re not the target market here.  Far cry from the band that not long ago bent over backwards to record an album direct to analog tape.  They’ve earned the right to do what they want I guess, but it seems like Porsche introducing a new car with a de tuned engine, thinner tires, and softer suspension to perform more like a car from the 60s.  Whatever.

Acceptance regarding poor recordings is fine(necessary) but validating them "for the content" is ridiculous. Content and SQ are two different entities and need to be critiqued on an individual basis. Currently streaming music will almost always have a higher noise floor then with good Vinyl/Compact Disc playback. Adding filters/DSP/DBX/Equalizers/Switches defeats the purpose of the "so-called" convenience and can alter the tonality and nuances which were fine but buried within the streaming noise floor.

No they don't suck ! This recordings sound suck 😉

I've been a fan of Dave since early 90s and most recordings sounds good but this was a new low.

They've always been raw'ish.  Not really for critical listenting...for system and recording quality.  More about the actual music.  I love them but not their recordings so much.  he he
