Earth Day, turn those amps OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Earth Day, turn those amps OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've said it before, I'll say it again, it is Environmentally IRRESPONSIBLE to leave your equipment on for long periods of time, before or after, or truly despicable, ON all the time!

On, 20 mins, listen, done, off!

Doctors, Lawyers, Trust Fund Kiddos, come on now.

Where were you in 1970?, I was there in Manhattan (went to college at Pratt in Brooklyn 1966-1970)

I woke up thinking about ’GAS’ Gear Acquisition Syndrome’ Cameras, Audio, Autos, Clothes ....

How much energy is involved in the entire chain, from making the beast machines that dig the raw materials, roads to those sites, feed and house the workers, transport, warehouse, lighting/heat/ac, parking lots, parking lot lighting, snow plowing, landscaping of every site involved, marketing materials, sales offices, everything needed for every location in the entire chain to get to your door.

It’s true for everything, i.e. 30 varieties of pickles in these city sized stores all over the place. I’m horrified when I go inside one.

The problem is the end game, there’s no work for anyone.

I personally never heard class d (that I was aware of), there is a point of silliness, but opposing leaving them on makes good sense to me, especially because it is Unnecessary. 20 min warm up is plenty.

Calling someone you don’t even know “ TRUELY DESPICABLY “ is pretty strong. I leave my DAC and streamer on 24/7. FWIT my electricity consumption last year was 13.9 megawatts. My solar system generated all my power plus and additional 2 megawatts that netted me $71 back. My power company sold that overage last summer for approximately $1K. I have tube gear and the rest of my gear stays off when not in use. Since I live in central California and we have the second highest power rate in the country next to San Diego and it is in the 100’s most of the summer I’m looking at a class D amp for the upcoming summer. I try to look for the similarities and not the differences especially on this site. Respectfully, Mike B.

FWIT the house for the C S & N cover was demolished the day after the picture was taken.

@buellrider97

I often overstate things, to get the blood flowing. If people don't have an understanding of my sense of humor by now (7 years here), it's not for my lack of trying.

Directed an no one personally, but if the shoe fits .....

At least I speled it rite.

Interesting fact about the building, I didn't know Graham's origin story until it popped up today.

The long proffered rule of thumb is Tubes off when not in use; Solid state stays on. My SS streamers switches are in back and one has no switch.

@elliottbnewcombjr This got me thinking if Solid State equipment gives out from repetitive on off cycles and needs replacing or repairing sooner wouldn’t this be more wasteful? Danged if you do; danged if you don’t?

MFA RISD ‘81 for me. Pratt was very happening when you were there. I was undergrad at the now dashed upon the rocks Hampshire College.

(To graduate from”Camp Hamp” one had to do the equivalent of an honors thesis. I marched out in 1979 having to do equal parts growing up and a whole lot of the three R’s.

To those all over the web lambasting Hampshire based on what you think you know I will not convince you otherwise but please know just like any college we had your do gooders, dilettantes, cat lovers, cat haters and all other sorts. The common thead was a derp dive into your area of study. If you wanted to graduate, then you had to buck up and work. Period.

I’m deeply saddened even if this demise was inevitable with changing times.

The Hampshire motto is Non Satis Scire translated from Latin means “To know is not enough.” To which I might add “Keep on Trucking.”)

FYI, Diane Arbus taught there briefly. Thus my tangential musing.
