Stretching out with other worldly and US jazz influenced music

I wanted to start a thread to show there is more than just Avant Garde and or Straight Ahead Jazz music in our world. And there is absolutely nothing wrong at all with Avant Garde and or Straight Ahead Jazz music as I do love that part of US Jazz based culture. But sometimes I want to hear and add more sound spices as it were, from other worldly and US jazz influenced music.

There is so much more other worldly and US jazz influenced music that goes unnoticed and it's time to bring those musics of different sound spices to the forefront to be shared.

Although I have started this thread I am not a or the moderator. Let me repeat I am not a or the moderator. I don't have the time nor energy to police anyone's take on the music they like and want to share. As I will always try and be open to others choices of music.

This lady can sing her face off. Although she is pegged in the Discogs category of Funk/Soul, Rhythm & Blues - She’s one of the greatest vocalist Jazz or otherwise I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing live. And George Duke adding his Jazz pedigree in the arrangements leaves you feeling you’ve seen a singer that can surely sing Jazz.

This is song is called Spanish Joint · by D’Angelo. Is it Jazz? Maybe not necessarily so - but as far as I’m concerned it is very much jazz - tinged and infused with some serious jazz chops. Also check out his Roberta Flack’s cover - Feel Like Makin’ Love.

Roy Hargrove is providing the nicely arranged horns and Charlie Hunter is on the hybrid bass/guitar playing both the bass lines and guitar licks all at the same time.

As you may or may not know Roy hargrove is no longer with us and sadly we have also lost the Young Lion, Mixing Engineer, Producer, Vocalist and Multi Instrumentalist - D’Angelo.

Check Charlie Hunter out ...Charlie Hunter plays his part on the D’Angelo classic “Spanish Joint” Now tell me that ain’t Jazz...

Revisiting some old CD's this weekend.

Rodney Jones is among a few guitar players who released great albums late 90's-early 2000's.
