Accuphase DC-1000 Processor/DAC

After a recent thread on streamers I decided to look into DACs, particularly the Accuphase DC-1000.  Currently own an Accuphase DC-37 Processor/DAC . My Innuos Pulsar feeds the DC-37  via Innuos Phoenix USB out. The DC-37 feeds my Accuphase C2300 preamplifier via XLR.  Seeing that streaming is my only source for music,  I'm considering upgrading my DAC to the Accuphase DC-1000 and I'm wondering if this is an actual and noteworthy upgrade.

@audiopacer that's good to hear! The DP-770 and the DC-1000 are heavy weights.  I missed out on a DC-1000 that was on consignment for 40% off MSRP and had ib jumped on it I could have added a transport.  I believe there's a used DP-720 on the market but I'm not sure if the DAC is any better than my current DC-37 so what's the point? But your DP-770 is not just a component, it's the perfect instrument. Enjoy!

@audiopacer this is what AI has to say about the DP-720

Both DC-37 and DP-720 use the exact same digital-to-analog conversion technology. At the time of their release, Accuphase took the digital processing stage from their flagship all-in-one player (the DP-720) and put it into a dedicated chassis to create the DC-37

It’s a "sideways" move in terms of DAC technology, but a significant "upward" move in terms of system versatility.

@fire_water

I think the move to the DP-720 will exceed your expectations when spinning CDs. The local reading, clocking, and signal processing domain strategy has reduced exposure to noise and jitter - all handled with shortest trace lengths and cables and routing. The instant an external device is added to the mix- eg a cd transport, a whole other set of engineering requirements is necessary and then there are endless options of what digital cable to use. If you have the space, time, and budget to go for a fully exploded CDP (DAC and transport) go for it by all means. But the performance level of the top CD players( like Accuphase and Esoteric) has basically converged on the same point for physical playback- that is , it’s about as good as it gets. You will pay dearly to extract additional tiny bits of information by going full send into the separate chassis realm, and this may be of value to you- I can’t say.

The floorstanders have the correct cabinet volume and crossover for superior sonics. They have the same footprint as the  bookshelf speaker in stands

These floorstanders with their deep extension can serve as a distributed bass array with your ryrhmik for superior room integration (put the rythmik in  the back of the r oom)

@fire_water there were a few DACs prior to the Accuphase, Playback Designs MPD-3, Grace M902/3, nothing else after the Accuphase, love the sound, feeding it good quality material is the hardest challenge!
