New aftermarket plinth for Technics SP 10 MK2/MK3/R from Acoustand

owned too the Moerch 6 but never the 8 ( the 6 very unstable bad tonearm. Btw a copy-cat of the japanese Highphonic model.  ).

I have set up the Morch DP8 with a variety of cartridges, it’s not a great arm.

The Kuzma 4Point left it for dead with the same group of cartridges mounted on the same turntable.

Morch designed the original arm in 1981, Highphonic took it to the Japanese market around 1985.

It’s a book  ( 700pages ) that appeared twice each year and with no advertasing or

any article of an audio subject, it’s only a guide of Audio items.

 

Well Highphonic started before 1985 and was founded by ex-Denon workers and one of its first cartridge was the MC3 at begin of 1982. I owned the MC-A6 and the MC D-15 where this one is even to today top quality standards an outstanding cartridge.

A few times I found out a few differences with other " bibles/sources " in specific of the start market date. So my reference is this Stereo Guide. Could be wrong? yes but who really knows.

Other problem with the Morch tonearm is that develops several kind of resonances and as always exist audiophiles that like those resonances but me as you just do not like because degrades the quality LP recording.

Dear @rich121  :I know that you are exited by the plinth you found out and that be there with the seller that's anew item.

 

Now, yout MK3 always was sold aalong the EPA 100MK2 and for very good reasons between other is IMHO the best pivoted tonearm ever.

In those times the SP10 always had mounted Technics tonearms never a FR or almost no any other tonearm.

As I toldyou that the more important and critical analog aitem for any cartridge is the tonearm before any TT. The relationship/matching between cartridge/tonearm is always first than all to achieve the best quality performance during play, nomatter what.

Here a EPA 100MK2 ( very rare ) that was sold same day that was offered. The 100MK2is the only tonearm everwhere the arm wand/headshell were build with Boron, yes the same cartridge material cantilever used in the best today top cartridges.Go figure ! ! ¡¡   Sold in a true bargain price even that that headshell is not the original for a MK2:

All those Technics offered separates counterweigth for heavy cartridges.

 

If I was youI wil try to find out both of the EPA 100 or al least one of them.Your plith will be there don't worry about.

Perhaps I should know better, but I have to disagree with Atmasphere about marrying dissimilar materials in turntable plinths.  If the dissimilar materials are squeezed together, this is called Constrained Layer Damping.  The fact that the two materials will have different resonant frequencies is the strength of the whole idea. Each constrains the other from resonating, and each resonates at a different frequency.  Therefore any resonance of the overall structure is broadened in frequency and flattened in amplitude.

Yes the Highphonic carts were available in early 80's. I've heard them all on my TT, they were reviewed in TAS in 1983 in a review of the Japanese high end using my TT - the most popular tonearms in Japan at that time were Audiocraft and SAEC - quite different sounding arms.

The Highphonic tonearm was launched in 1985 in Japan. As I said Morch had the 1st prototype displayed in Denmark in 1981.

At the end of the day it takes design cues from earlier arms such as the Mayware, JH and Transcriptors unipivots. I had a Mayware back in the late 70's for a short period, it was an exception tracker on a wide variety of cartridges.
