I have had the 10s for one year. I much prefer the Master Edition crossover. I set them on "low" for better seperation and clarity. I added Aperion ribbon super tweeters with highest dB attenuation at 18mhz. They lift the sound and give it sparkle. Without them the sp10 hf is just a wee bit shiny but coherent nonetheless. I have had these on regular stands and low slung stands. I prefer the regular stands. I have driven with solid state (ARC, Odyssey) and class D (OA Starkrimson) but they are magnificent with tubes. They have tight bass and can be bunged if there is any chuff. Awesome speakers. I might be willing to part with them to trade into the 888 or V10.
Sourcepoint 8 or Sourcepoint 10?
Hello All - I am going to have to replace my Apogee Stages at some point and I am considering the MoFi Sourcepoint Speakers - 8s or 10s. I know that they are going to be very different than my current speakers but I want something that can be listened to more casually (not always in the sweet spot), and I like a warmer big sound. My listening area is about 14 by 16 with 9ft ceilings and the back of the listening area opens to the dining room area that is another 14 x 16. I can place the speakers up to 3 ft out from the wall. I also like listening to music in the late evening at lower levels. In addition, I have a Rythmik subwoofer that can stay and could add a second if needed to calm room misbehavior. Asking for thoughts or experience with these speakers.
BTW - My digital chain runs through a Denafrips Venus II 12th and my Analog is an older Linn Sondek LP12 with Ittok LV !! (Black) Arm and Ortofon MC X40 into a Linn Linto phono stage.

Having heard each model quite a bit- the 10's by- quite a bit. The 8's are voiced to be a bit warmer and boxier sounding but the tone to my ears blocks out some detail, gives the bass a repeating tone and does not extend as deep or with as much impact as the 10s. The 10s are clear and have decent resolution along with full range bass that IMHO do not need subwoofers- they are also very dynamic and responsive. 10s all the way. |
That is a very good deal. Interestingly enough, I recently watched the you tube video of the GR Research crossover upgrades. Danny was not able to find any fault with the original crossover and simply upgraded all of the parts without changing any of the values. He did add an impedance trap to calm a large peak. With the upgrades and the stands included - it is a very nice package price. The seller has only sold one item before so not much background. |
@gkelly, I’ve seen two sources quoting Andrew saying he continues with Mo-Fi; so the new company is an additional effort. That alone suggests the new model will be priced higher. But all that also questions what he could do for Mo-Fi at this point if he is selling a "next" model in his design line up? |
