measurement software / sound card recommendations
I've been using an ancient macbook pro with an external M-Audio firewire 410 soundcard paired with R+D software (which has to run in windows) for decades. It is an odd setup perhaps, but it has worked for a long time. However the rig has finally broken down on me, so I'm in the market for a new combo to help in listening room set up - primarily freq eq, but reflection delays, absorber placement, RT60 measurements, etc. Its been so long since I've researched this space I wanted to reach out and see what people are recommending these days. I've got relatively new mac and windows machines, so I'm OS agnostic. I'd like to continue to use my existing calibrated Behringer ECM8000 mic.
What's everybody using?
You'd be surprised how little you need. Measurement mics are usually USB anyway so you don't need much of a soundcard. I'm in the minority but I really like OmniMic by Bill Waslow. Maybe because he's a contributor on DIYaudio and a really nice guy who also made XSim. If you don't care which, I'd say go with Room EQ wizard and a decent mic from miniDSP. |
Thanks. I've been reading up on the MiniDSP mics. I assumed REW would be the suggested software. Back when I selected R+D (again, decades ago) my research led me to believe this was the more accurate software, but I can see that REW has come a long way since then. I just need to decide whether I want to keep it simple (USB mic) or get another ext audio interface with phantom power and keep using the condenser mic. |
