@fastfreight I haven’t tried any PCs from Shunyata but my impressions of the Alpha v2 xlr mirror yours, very detailed but a bit thin, bright and analytical sounding. I was hoping the new X cables would have a fuller sound.

I have used Rick Schultz magnetic cables for 15 years and currently use his new Apparition range. They are quite similar to Valhalla IIs which I also highly recommend .

Don't dismiss the Shunyata Alpha-X power cables without trying them. I am using the Alpha-X NR cables to power my PMG Signature preamp, PS Audio Mk2 DAC, and Innuos Pulsar streamer, and they sound fantastic. These cables are sweet and smooth in my system. They are very well-balanced, with full, natural tone -- neither too lean nor too fat. Bass is extended, clear, and tight. Wide, realistic soundstage and very easy to listen to without fatigue. In an extended demo, the Alpha-X sounded better than Cardas Clear, Cardas Clear Beyond, Snake River Takshaka, Shunyata Theta, or Shunyata Delta V2. YMMV, of course.

In my experience, not all Shunyata cables sound thin or bright, especially with the right equipment matching.

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who shared their perspectives on this topic. I genuinely enjoy hearing your viewpoints. Whether we agree or not doesn’t matter; discussing these things helps clarify our choices.

Over forty years ago, when I first got involved in this hobby, the HiFi shop employees would simply ask, “How many feet of wire do you need?” Sometimes we’d just pick up a 50- or 100-foot roll of hookup wire—Monster Cable was popular—and strip the ends ourselves. Back then, most new HiFi gear came with basic black lamp cord-style cable terminated with the worst red & white RCA connectors.

Fast forward to today, and it’s a different scene: cables are everywhere, snaking across the floor in pursuit of the perfect sound. I love it! (I’m a fan of Shunyata Cables.) There was a time when my system was fully wired with Shunyata Research products—power cords, Alpha NR V1, ZeTron Digital & Analog, and Anaconda. ZeTron Python & Cobra XLRs, ZeTron Python speaker cables—the works. That was the first time I had 95% of my system outfitted with matching power cords, interconnects, and speaker cables from the same brand. The result was incredible: the sound was exceptionally clean, holographic, and spacious. The bass was punchy and dynamic, and you can hear the bass guitarist's hands and fingers sliding up and down the strings. I am a retired rock & rudimental drummer. I need to hear all the overtones of the drums, that sound the drumstick makes with rimshots, the sticks on the cymbals, hi-hat. I want to hear those notes. I listen to music the way a musician hears it. I want accurate, realistic sounds. That is what my Andra III se speakers can reproduce, and they accurately reproduce piano. A beautiful instrument in the right hands, a piano is a percussion instrument, and these speakers reproduce that, and there are times when you can hear the hammers striking the strings. Shunyata cables allowed my system to reproduce accurate music.   

Now, I’m recreating that experience—this time with Cardas Audio. My setup includes Cardas Clear Cygnus interconnects with upgraded XLRs (my entire system is balanced), Cardas Clear Cygnus bi-wire speaker cables with all spade connectors as recommended by McIntosh, a Cardas Clear Digital Coax cable (RCA, not balanced), and Cardas Clear Cygnus power cords.

Above all, remember to enjoy the music first.
