Puritan PSM156

Hello All,

 I came across this product while searching Power Conditioners. Puritan PSM156.

 Does anyone have one, or, does anyone know anything about it, and how it would stand up to or even better the more popular and well known brands?

@wig

Thank you for sharing! I assume the screw holes align with no rework?

Are you by chance using the Furutech FI-52 NCF c19 IEC on the Ultimate PC? If so, does it provide any sonic benefit?

@tthelen64

The holes aligns perfectly, just grind a little at a time...

Yes, I'm FI-52 NCF on Furutechs DPS and it's a wonderful combination and just love it.😊

After years of debating getting a PSM 156, I ordered a used one and it will be here next week - and is fully burned in.

A few questions please - pick and choose any if you have a moment:

1. I already have two (burned in) Furutech Rhodium outlets. Wouldn't adding a Furu Rhodium outlet to the 156 probably be too much of a good thing?

2. Has anyone changed an outlet in the PSM 156 (USA) and if so, was it difficult? I'm aware of the 156 NFR but only need a few outlets - int amp and phonostage. I'll also plug in my TT but it is belt driven and CD player which I rarely listen to. The 156 outlets are single not the double I have in my wall so I'd have to buy new ones and burn those in (yuck).

3. Any other mods to consider such as a Furu Rho inlet? I see the posts above. I don't think I'll be wanting to modify my "new" 156 though - maybe if a worthwhile upgrade (any new comments?). For now, I'll just see how it sounds but of course, thinking down the road.

4. Any issues placing the 156 next to my Modwright phono stage? I write this because the 9.0x's power supply is supposed to be a few feet away. I realize the 156 won't be powering the main 9.0x unit, but does it matter if you have something with that much power flowing through it next to the phonostage.

My power cord will either be a LessLoss entrophic or a Spiritual PC (sliver based, newer company) as the unit didn't ship with a PC.

Thank you!

@laynes - Congrats on your purchase. I’m afraid I’m not in a position to address any of your questions. As an aside, I do recommend their ultimate cable as the main cable connecting the unit to the power outlet.

I’m also a satisfied owner of two Puritan 156 units. I use one in both of my systems.

Let us know your thoughts once you’ve played it in your system for a few days. I do remember my units took a couple of days to run in.

@laynes do not place the 156 next to any component. Keep it lest e feet away. The 156 is an active conditioner with transformers inside and these transformers emit EMI/RFI and will negatively impact your amplifier, preamp and even more so the phono stage.
I would also advise to use 156 only for source components. Keep the amplifier plugged directly into wall. PSM156 is current limited despite their claims.
