I used Ethernet to SFP to Ethernet with my Esoteric N01XDSE, and since then simplified to Ethernet to SFP Optical to SFP Copper with my Esoteric N1. Very happy with results, benefits of noise reduction aside there is an unexplainable improvement in the lower registers.

@brighamdoc I am a happy owner of a Sonore opticalRendu Deluxe. It replaced the older opticalRendu, and years before that a microRendu. IMHE, the latest model provided more sonic improvement than I expected.

On the network side I previously used a TP-link simple ethernet>>optical converter which was bettered by a Sonore opticalModule. I replaced my cheap Trendnet switch recommended by SGC with a newer model that had optical output. That allowed me to eliminate ethernet cable entirely, along with eliminating the opticalModule. That change put money in my pocket and didn't noticeably impact SQ (YMMV). In all these cases, I run 5m optical cable into the listening room and keep the router, server, switch etc. in the next room...since long run optical cable doesn't degrade SQ, it's wonderful being able to separate the potentially noise gear from the analog components!

The last planned piece of the puzzle for me...the not yet released Uptone EtherRegen2 with B-side optical going to the opticalRendu Deluxe which I user as a Roon endpoint and HQ Player network audio adapter. 

I suggest you spend some time reading audiophilestyle, FKA computeraudiophile. The designers and many super knowledgeable users frequent the space. Cheers,

@brighamdoc - Hard to say since the gear and listening area for my outdoor system is so different from my main system. My music server is in a separate room and connected to the network. 15M of fiber runs from the base router unit in that server room to the Sonore Signature Rendu SE Deluxe optical in my main system.  In my outdoor system, a short Ethernet cable connects a different Roon endpoint to a mesh system satellite router.  Both set-ups operate without any issues but sound quality simply cannot be compared because the systems are too different.  If you cannot hardwire to the base router, and coming off of one of the satellites sounds good and operates properly, I wouldn’t sweat it.

@lalitk has a lot of experience I believe.  Also, there's a recent Stereophile Brilliant Minds column with a very low cost solution (i.e., about $100) that apparently had significant impact in a very high $ system.
