I hope I made good choices with new gear. Comments?

(Subtitled: Rabbit holes can run deep)

Synergy and such. It always worries me as I don’t have time for much trial and error.

Some of this appears in a recent thread elsewhere but it was getting off topic.

This all started out by me wanting a new TV. So I bought an LG 77" C5 OLED model. Well, then I decided I might as well redo the room it’s going in so that’s almost done.

Gee, then I figured I need a new DVD player, a 4K one. I bought a Panasonic DP-UB820-K for that. It reads like it’s a pretty good unit for picture and sound. Of course with the long cable run from the TV to the rack holding the audio gear and DVD player, I would need a 30’ or so optical HDMI cable. Also long audio cables from the TV to the rack.

My main audio system is also in the same room the TV is in. It’s mostly equipment I bought 36 years ago, save for the CD players. The amps are getting old and nobody around here works on them. So I purchased a pair of Cambridge Audio Edge M monoblocks. I figured I would use my old Harmon Kardon Citation 25 preamp with them. It’s compatible and still works. Nah, I ordered a Parasound Halo JC 2BP preamplifier today. Hey, those new components have XLR inputs and outputs! I bought some Audioquest Red River XLR cables for that.

No way am I going to just plug all of this stuff into wall outlets. I bought a pair of APC BR1500MS2 uninterruptible power supplies to protect against power surges and brownouts. These do not provide enough battery power to run for any length of time but we have an emergency standby generator that kicks in in less than 10 seconds so it’s not an issue.

With all the new gear, I need someplace comfortable to sit. I found a good set of wing chairs on sale on the ’net. Also got a nice small narrow table to put between them to hold remotes and a drink. My new gear also needs a nice place to sit so I also purchased a Salamander Designs rack for it.

New and much longer SP6 speaker cables are currently on the burn-in machine at Morrow Audio.

All of this started with wanting a new TV and it just kept going, LOL! Oh well. Did I miss anything? Did I get anything that’s not going to work well together?  I did as much research as I could and it was quite a bit. Ya never know though.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated! Thank you all.

I'm still basically a novice "audiophile" that did a crapload of research the last week or so. "

Welcome to the club! You are doing what everyone who has gotten into this hobby does. And you are doing it exactly the way we all do-"crapload of research." If possible go out and audition equipment after reading about it. Even if it's not what you want to buy this helps you train your ear and provide clarity and knowledge with the direction you want to go in.

Enjoy the journey as you enjoy your music.

I did read that the upper frequencies of your JBL were somewhat tamed by a change to the crossover.  As others suggested, give them a try.  Your room and speaker placement will be important.  I'm always amazed by some of the photos that I see of people's rooms and the placement of their speakers.

I think you'd be surprised by streaming, but i understand.  I have hundreds of cds and still play them on occasion.  My Denon cd player gives my streamer/dac a run for the money in terms of sound quality.  My Marantz did not.  It was a $600 player, so not high end.

David- Auditioning is always the best route but there’s nothing around here except Best Buy, so there’s nothing around here. I don’t have the time to travel elsewhere either. I work 60-65 hrs a week and try to keep the house in shape on the weekends. I have but a few hours each weekend to watch a movie or listen to music and that’s while I’m pedaling my indoor bicycle. I do get a week off here and there and then I get to relax. In 10 years I’ll retire and then have much more leisure time. Just getting my toys ready now!

sls883- Yes, the JBL L100t3’s have an "improved" crossover as compared to the L100t’s. The L100t’s go 10 db lower though. Each set sounds a little different but I like them both. Agreed on speaker placement. As I say, a new CD player is on the list, just a bit farther down. For now I have a Tascam CD player/recorder, a Rotel CD11 Tribute and a couple of vintage Harmon Kardon HD7600’s. Those HK’s are old but I bought them new for $1100 each in 1990 I believe. A lot of loot back then!

Highly resolving, fast, and transparent with powerful control—leaning toward accuracy over warmth, but balanced by the JBL’s natural punch.

that’s word salad. Absolute BS. That sentence makes sense in English but audio-wise: none, whatsoever. Conflicting random stuff. So is the rest of the AI "analysis". But research is good, your gear must sound sweet.

I just can’t wait for the ChatGP BS to be investigated and shot behind the barn.

it will be interesting to compare the two pair of JBL's with your new gear.  I would probably prefer the pair that has the better highs and mids, but that's just me.  You may find that the newer JBL's have good low frequencies especially when driven by your new monoblocks.

Have fun with it.  That's the best part of this hobby.
