Magnepan LRS+ and WiiM Amp

I currently run my Qualio IQ (89 dB, 4 Ohm) speakers with a WiiM Amp both for music and it is also connected to the TV via HDMI. The WiiM amp runs them very well. Recently listened to the Magnepan LRS+ at a friend's house and was really surprised witht the clarity of sound. Since then have been thinking of getting a pair. The only place I think where I can keep the Magnepans is in the TV room to provide space both sides and I am limited to using the WiiM Amp due to the HDMI feature. Looking for advice/experience on pairing the LRS+ with the WiiM Amp.

thanks

I have LRS. Run them with 200/350 WPC 8/4 ohm amp and they like it all. The WiiM may not show you what they are capable of.

The Wiim amp should have enough power for the LRS+, but you could do better for that speaker.

The LRS+ is not really the clearest sounding. A KEF LS50 Meta is cleaner sounding. I have owned both.

I was going to say that using Maggies near a TV is terrible, but I have a friend who has 4 Maggie 1.7 panels in a medium room near a TV. It was not that bad. I never keep a TV near my speakers.

The Maggies do not suffer from sidewall reflections as much as other speakers I owned. Maybe there is something to that that also made the TV setup also sound OK.

Even in my office I have 9 computer screens and Magnepan Mini panels behind my seating position in a very small but open space. It sounds great even though the space is a nightmare for most speakers. The Mini panels sound better than the LRS+ but is really for a small space. I have owned both.

I currently use the $995 Class D GanFet 6.5 amp on the Magnepan Mini, I also used the Schiit Wotan, and the CODA #16 on these speakers. the 6.5 and Wotan are very good on the LRS+. The CODA #16 is at another league with the LRS+. Sadly, sold that amp today.

@yyzsantabarbara thank you for the detailed response. I was able to go to the shop and audition them. They usually audition them on a Rogue Sphinx. I listened on them and then on WiiM Amp. Of course the Rogue was better but the WiiM was not bad at all. Long story short I bought them.

Congrats they are great speakers. They do not like loud deep bass.

Down the road if upgrading get a sealed sub (Rythmic or SVS) and if the WIIM can low pass the output to the LRS do it,

You will have a full range system that within volume limits is crazy good for the $$.
