JBL XPL200A The Unicorn speaker?
I found a pair of JBL XPL200A which I immediately snatched up! Anyone that had the pleasure of listening to the XPL200 would agree they are worth the $ to repair. The woofers needed re-foaming which was a given considering the vintage. One of the tweeters (046-Ti1) needs a new diaphrgm, unfortunately JBL stopped producing them but offer the newer version (046-Ti1S) which is supposed to sound identical. However, the replacement diaphragm is 10db lower. We swapped the new diaphragm on the working tweeter and it played 10db lower also. The XPL200 is 6ohm but I haven't seen a 6 ohm diaphragm. Does anyone know a direct replacement or have experience replacing Ti speakers? TIA!

I wish I had the DX-1 but they are almost impossible to find. I will be using the dbX DriveRack PA+. I've never set up a digital crossover, I'll need the crossover setting points in order to replicate them on the dbx unit. I wonder if anyone has them For comparison, the internal passive network of the XPL200 (when not bi-amping) uses the following fixed points:
Could I essentially use these settings for the dbx and fine tune from there? BTW-I got lucky and scored the original XPL stands with the speakers. |
I'm sure you will love the XPL200's bi-amped. I had them quad amped with the internal crossover completely disconnected, a very detailed speaker. I damaged the midrange from over excursion, so be careful not to overdrive them! Whatever you do, don't go below the recommended crossover frequency for the titanium dome midranges and tweeters. Hope that helps I have no experience with a digital crossover only analog. I use a JBL 5235 active analog crossover with special plug in crossover cards # 52-5130 designed for the JBL 4430, 4435 monitors. Crossover point is 1000 Hz electrical the speakers are two way. 😎 Mike |
