Elton John SACD releases

Some of Elton John's catalog have been re-released as hybrid multi-channel SACDs. They are:

Elton John (1st Album)
Madman Across the Water
Tumbleweed Connection
Honky Chateau
Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

I was wondering how they sounded. Has anyone out there picked them up? If so, what are your impressions?

Cheers

21 years later!!!  I just purchased EJ, Madman, Tumbleweed, GBYBR, and Captain Fantastic on Ebay.  I’ll need to replace a few of the jewel cases, but the discs are all in good shape.  All at about $36-$40 per title.  Honky Chateau is also available but at more than double the price.  I’ll probably break down and pick it up as well.

I’ve listened to Madman and Tumbleweed (on an Onix XST20 SACD transport, SMSL DO200 MKII MQA Balanced DAC, McIntosh MA252, KEF R3 Metas, KEF KC62 subs).  Even with this basic system, the detail and separation are impressive.  Looking forward to playing through the others.  And I must admit that I am a huge EJ fanboy, at least through Captain Fantastic.

In a couple of weeks I’ll be able to try them on my main system - can’t wait!

I have all of those titles along with “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. The 5.1 and 2.0 SACD layers sound equally impressive. My personal favorites are “ Tumbleweed” and “Madman”. Some of these titles have pretty good bonus tracks not available on the original albums.
