Onkyo A-50 vs Buckeye Purifi 1ET6525SA

My wife is in love with the looks of the A-50. I'm thinking I might be better off with the Stereo Purifi Amp and a Wiim Ultra as the preamp for now. More power, possibly more robust. We have a CD Player and a cheap Audio Technica turntable for now. Speakers are BMR Towers, 4-6 ohm and 85 DB. Listening distance is about 9 feet in a 14 by 14 by 8 foot room.

What are your thoughts on the Onkyo vs the Buckeye? Which set up would you go with?

This will be only for music at least for now.

Appreciate your input. Thank you.

I don't plan to run the sub with my speakers for music. My speakers are true full range. The sub will be for movies and tv. My speakers are very neutral as well so I'll be able to tell immediately if the amp is bright. Hopefully not!

A vented subwoofer will still help you feel the music better in the low frequency. Most full range speakers don't have long-throw woofers because they have to be fast to reproduce higher frequencies with shorter wavelengths. Sealed subs are the flavor of the week but they're a better match for speakers that need help in higher frequencies where speed is more relevant. If you have full range, vented subs complement it better.

@salon64 if they die I am going to buy what ever I want as a replacement and ignore her input. I also got a really good price on them saved a lot of money.

@bartsw it depends on the music for me. If it’s modern pop or stuff with real deep heavy bass I usually run the sub. For most everything else I tend to prefer to run just two channel as my speakers are three way and can dig to 20hz no problem. Not that rock and the other stuff gets anywhere near there.

You were stressing over your whether your new amp would last a lifetime. Sounds like you're over that.
