Luxman L-550ax

Hi,

I have just bought a Luxman L-550ax. I bought it for the reason of eventually relocating to a smaller place and need an all in one. Due to that relocation, I will eventually need to get bookshelf speakers. I've narrowed it down to the Ascilabs C6B. They are 85db at 4 ohm. Will the 550ax's 40w class A be able to drive them in no larger of a room than 15' x 20' ?

Thanks for the help

Coming back to this thread. Since, I haven't settled on speakers yet (I take forever ;) I have been using the Luxman as a headphone amp. I have realized that I am getting a fair bit of low buzzing noise when I engaged the volume (even in the lowest setting) I think it is from the transformer? Has anyone else had experience with this?

Yes, when the volume is always down you don't hear the noise, but right when you turn it a little the noise is clearly audible no matter the volume setting.

One peculiarity of the Luxman integrateds IIRC, is they dont have a headphone amp but instead use the same amps as the speakers via resistors.

If you dont hear the noise over your speakera it could be a funky connection at the headphone jack.  Also, check amp output for DC.  Should be near 0 regardless of volume
