Hagerman, new or used. Try hard to get a Trumpet (any kind or vintage). Cornet if you can't stretch it. Do you need MC or just MM?

Thanks for response. Going to use high output MC

High output MC can be a tough range to hit the sweet spot for. You generally want more gain than for typical MM, but less than MC. You could go any Hagerman tube MM stage combined with his Piccolo head-amp for an extra gain boost; it sounds very good and has a low gain setting appropriate for HOMC when combined with an MM stage:

  • Choice of: Cornet (any version: 2, 3, MM), Trumpet ("classic" tower versions are MM-only), or Trumpet MM (modern version for MM only) -plus- a Piccolo (any version except the ZERO) set to its lowest gain ~ 8dB. Trumpets are better than Cornets. Alternatively you could forgo the Piccolo and try to get by with ~ 44dB of gain for your HOMC, using preamp gain to fill if needed.
  • OR you could pick up his modern Trumpet MC which has all the right gain settings built-in for MM, LOMC, and MOMC, and LOMC. This is probably your best bet. Used they go ~ 1K.

I’ve become sort of a Hagerman collector. All his stuff sounds good!

Looking at Sota table Comet with Hana EH or Mofi Ultradeck with Sumiko Blue Pt 3 High just wondering Trumpet will be good synergy
