Who would you trust with your Otari RTR deck ?

I might want to get one later but only if it could be serviced by reliable qualified people. Shipping would not be a big problem for me, just not across the oceans please.

Soren at CS Electronics (773) 562-3527 in Chicago is the to go guy for anything to do with Otari pro decks. He used to work there. He has parts and knows the machines extremely well.

Curt Palmer in Vancouver BC Reel-to-Reel Tech - Everything About Reel-to-Reel!

You mail it to Sumas, WA just before the border and he goes to pick it up. He has shipping instructions on his website.

That's good. Four places, one in Chicago, two in NYC, one in BC/WA.

Do those motors run forever or you need to replace them too at some point?

@inna They need occasional service since the lubrication in them does not last forever. I've brought a lot of tape machines back to life and have yet found the need to replace a motor.

That said some of the Otari capstan motors have a servo control to keep them on speed. During moving or shipping, its possible to damage some of the internals of motors like that. In such a case the motor could be either replaced or disassembled and the damaged bits replaced.
