McIntosh MA12000 is it worth upgrading to.

I'm thinking about upgrading from a MA452 power amp and a MC70 tube preamp, to the MA12000. I like the built in dac. and 8 tone controls. USB connection and more balanced inputs. It would also take up less space. The tube pre section has less distortion.03 MC70 .08 but the power side is 350wpc compared to the 452 at 450wpc. I love my system amazing sound and sound stage would like some feedback if worth the investment. McIntosh as of May 1, is offering 75% of the original MSP, till the end of June. I would appreciate all feedback pro or con.

I am  also about to take advantage of the Mac upgrade program, and am looking at trading in my MA352 for either the MA12000 vs the combo MA462 and I think the C2800 tube preamp.  I don't care about the DAC because I already have a Weiss 405.  My speakers are Revel Studio 2 and 2 SVS subs.

I'm looking for better sound and want to see if the higher watts produce better sound.  I'd live to get the MA12000, not only because it looks awesome, as mentioned above, but is also thousands less than the separates.

So, Do I need the extra 100 watts from the MC462, and is it worth an extra $10 grand?  Or will the MA12000 give me the boost I'm looking for?

@mojo771 - which Mac upgrade program are you referring to?  The original post is from 3 years ago, so just curious what's new in 2026..

Also, I've auditioned both - the MA12000 and the C2800 + MC462 combo.  Also the MA9500, which sounded pretty bad compared to the other two options.

I went with the MA12000, but the MC462 + C2800 combo was outstanding as well.

McIntosh is having a trade-in / upgrade special where they will give up to 80% to upgrade until the end of this month.

I haven't wanted to buy a new amp because I couldn't trade in my MA352.  But if I get credit I will upgrade to the MA12000 integrated/hybrid, or the C2800 + MC462 if I can hear the improvement.

I've upgraded from the MA252, and the difference is huge.

I used to keep the volume in the 40-50 range, but with the MA12000 I can't go above 30 - the furniture is shaking, and my ears are ringing. and the family starts yelling at me.  Also, my speakers sound way better now - it's almost like I've got a brand new pair for free with my purchase.  So, definitely some noticeable improvement..  Good luck with your decision!
