Haven't heard the Lintons, but I own the Dovedale 90ths. I can tell you they are excellent speakers. If the Lintons are 75% of that, they are a bargain.

Of those two, I would pick the KLH 5, I very much like that they include a control to adjust them in any listening space,
larger 10" woofer, no port, and the included stands tilt them back, keeping them physically/visually low in the space but aiming the tweeters up to seated ear height.
https://www.stereophile.com/content/klh-model-five-loudspeaker Note: both sensitivity and impedance have clarifications, make sure your amp has both enough power and current (not a monster, but ’enough’, perhaps tubes 40-45 wpc rather than 25-30 wpc is what I mean)
I had a smaller pair of Wharfedales, and even in my small office, I needed a sub to keep them from sounding small, I bet, like my AR-2ax’s (also have level controls) I would not need to add a sub to the KLH. Of course, in a large or even larger space I want a pair of 12" or 15" woofers rather than subs. IF for peace and harmony, avoiding ’too big’ speakers, plan on eventually adding a stereo pair of front firing self-powered subs, located adjacent to the mains to get the help with imaging you get from the overtones of low bass notes. Avoid ports, if ports, front firing, and even then try stuffing them closed. This discussion, here, popped up https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/does-anyone-own-the-new-klh-model-5-speakers?highlight=klh I restored 2 pairs of AR-2ax, very similar, it is not for the inexperienced, the fact that they make these KLH-5 new is a wonderful thing. These JBL’s are from that era, a jump up to 12" woofers, also level controls, also stands, also ’relatively’ inexpensive compared to a lot on the market, but a big jump up in price from the KLH, and JBL 100’s grilles are a distinctive appearance that will or will not be appealing. Note: the stands are a separate ’add-on’ I consider them vital. |
@Simao - Agree on your reply. Should have provided more info. New to these forums. So I am currently running CXA81, CXN, DAC MAGIC 200M, KEF LS50 Metas, with KC62 sub. Room is 20ft x 13ft, with listening point around 11.5 ft from 20ft wall. No glass to worry about, 8ft ceilings and general furnishings on wood floors (large area rug, couch, wall art, etc). Looking at upgrading on Amp to NAD M33 V2, and speakers. Interested in the Super Lintons and KLH, but advice on whether this is the right choice based on the current and pending new kit. Mostly listen to Jazz, Blues, Classical and some rock. Hope this helps. Thanks. |
