My source is a streamer and cd transport, so I only use one xlr on my preamp. I am not a fan of integrating my sources.
Do Preamps only Need Two Inputs in the New World?
I finally made the move into a high quality DAC - a used Denafrips Venus II 12th. With that part finally sorted and my digital sources (DMP A6 and SMSL PL200T) connected to it, I only use one input for my digital stream and one for my turntable. I do still have a tuner connected but do not use it due to distance from stations.
With a great Phono Stage and a Great DAC is there a need for the added complexity. Due to the rapid changes, I do not think that an expensive preamp or integrated with a built in DAC is a good idea.

If I were starting out in the music and better quality audio world today it would be the DAC having the input and no need for a preamplifier. Since I have a record collection, a CD collection, files/ services that need to be streamed and an FM tuner I use for one local long time radio favorite station, my preamp needs 4 inputs. In addition my preamp is the crown jewel of my system that makes everything sound better. |
@elliottbnewcombjr 10 year old 3 Series so much nicer than 2026 model. |
The CD player is a 2015 650i convertible with x-drive I found in Florida with only 33k miles, has 44k now. Last year I needed new tires, got new aftermarket wheels also. Came with Bang & Olufsen Sound System. Ridiculous speaker that lifts up/lowers itself in the center of the dash. Just stay up, you idiot!
