Vertical Stacking Equipment
Due to space constraints I need to vertically stack four pieces of audio equipment in a cabinet.
The pieces are:
Conrad Johnson Premier 16LS Preamp (weight 25 lbs.)
Conrad Johnson Premier 15 Phono Preamp (weight 22 lbs.)
Conrad Johnson DV 2b CD Player (weight 20 lbs.)
Magnum Dynalab MD102 Tuner (weight 16 lbs.)
I would like to begin by elevating the first component 2 1/4 “ from the bottom of the cabinet and then place the other three pieces on top separated by some type of isolation “footers”. In the past I have used four 1” x 2” tall cork/rubber “footers” between each component.
Looking for a recommendation for better “footers” between the components for stacking. I thought I found my answer in Nordost’s Sort Kones (four under each unit) but now I’m not so sure as an “AI” query said it’s not recommended to use them in stacking. Maybe that’s not true, I don’t know.
Thank you for any responses!

It is better to have individual shelves in the rack/cabinet/closet: and then only the weight of each single component is on the properly sized isolator feet. you can get strong tempered glass shelves made that are thinner than wood, 1/4" is very strong, they make 3/8" t, for a long span I had 1/2" thick made for the top of the riser I built for my TV so the center channel speaker fits below the image. leave gaps and drill holes in the back (and/or shelves) as needed for ventilation, I cut big holes for access and ventilation, and made a removable back panel, so looking thru from the front it is dark, you do not see wires against a light colored wall https://www.audiogon.com/systems/12369 |
